I was very pleased with this collection! It's my first time reading anything from the Modesty Blaise series, and I came away smiling and a little bit inspired.

The three stories collected within are pure, retro pulp. There's glamour, subtle innuendo and fairly character-based mysteries to be solved. The artwork looks great, though of its time, and the short plots suit the original, syndicated format well. I couldn't actually imagine trying to follow each panel day by day, however - they read quit

This is a collection of three stories originally serialized in daily newspaper comic strip format, namely: The Stone Age Caper, The Puppet Master and With Love From Rufus.

Despite the limitations of the daily newspaper strip format, and considering that these particular stories first came out in 1971 and 1972, these were really quite good. This collection of 70's comic strips serialized in the English Evening Standard is pretty typical spy/heist fare, complete with unconscious-yet-egregious racism and excessive time spent on scenes where women are not wearing shirts. Entertaining, but not substantial.
