"Monsieur Poirot, somehow or other I've just got to get rid of my husband!" No sooner had she uttered these words than Lady Edgware's husband was dead, brutally stabbed in the neck. The evidence against her is overwhelming, the case cut and dried. But what is the truth behind it all? What enemies lurked in the background of the victim's life? Hercule Poirot is on the case, ...more

Sacré! It took me only 2 days to literally devour this book. I most certainly didn't saw that coming, I never could guessed who was the murderer, Agatha did good job!

This is probably my second favorite Agatha Christie novel, right behind "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd." It also has a special place in my heart because it was the first Agatha Christie novel that I actually read. This book made me want to actually read more Christie novels instead of merely watching the film and/or television adaptations. Generally speaking, I love "Lord Edgeware Dies" because I immensely enjoy all of the elements of the book. First, I found the story itself very engaging. Specif ...more

Absolutely classic Christie--this is the sort of novel that makes her reputation as Queen of Crime so richly deserved. I'd read it before and STILL got tangled in the red herrings and double, no triple, twists to the point that I questioned whether I had mis-remembered the solution. Poirot is at his best, and so is Hastings--we have to remember that Hastings, without meaning to be, is not a reliable narrator. He puts his own pedestrian spin on things: a suspect says something crucial, and Hastin ...more

I think Lord Edgware Dies has its own uniqueness.
It might not be different from AC other books, but the setting was so straight forward that you can really guess firsthand who was the murderer.
It just that, when you read further you will ask yourself questions like why this character did this, was these two people connected, was there any affair between them, was she there when this and that, and many other questions. All this questions will make you re consider your list of suspects. You might

Dame Agatha likes to use disguise and/or bogus identity as a key plot device. Seeing a GR review, I took out my copy for a reread as I was reminded of a Sketchbook prank inspired by this whodunit. I'm not fond of big cocktailers, but sometimes one "has" to go. There I stood, bored to hell, not knowing anyone other than the hostess, and drinking too much champagne.

Oh, there's someone I know, the artist Neil Smithson (not real name). We fell into lite chatter. Soon we were interrupted by a young w

A very enjoyable mystery to flex your brain to. I had a correct suspicion of the true murderer, and I thought the identity wasn't veiled as cleverly as in some other Christie's novels, but I could not figure out how the crime was committed and how the evidence fit together. The book ended in one of those confession notes that Christie utilized on several occasions throughout her literary career, which I don't particularly love, but Poirot's red herrings in the final reveal were brilliant and hil ...more

A typical, wonderful and very enjoyable Hercule Poirot novel.. BUT a little too predictive for my taste :)

Lord Edgware Dies is another classic crime mystery novel by my all time favourite author, Dame Agatha Christie. This is the ninth novel from the Hercule Poirot series. It is a somewhat baffling case, even for the genius that is Hercule Poirot.

Narrated by Poirot's companion Captain Hastings, Lord Edgware Dies is a mystery that will keep readers turning the page. It may be easy for readers to figure out who the murderer is, but not for them to figure out the entire story behind the murder.

This is the first Hercule Poirot book I’ve read and I’ll tell you what, it wasn’t a total disappointment. I loved the mystery and the way the suspense unfolded but not so much the lead characters. For me, Hercule Poirot = (Miss Marple X 10) + even worse! Tolerating his irritating grandma behaviour really became a challenge. I really hated him and most probably will not read more than a book or two from this series (that too only the recommended ones). Believe it or not, he irritated me to the po ...more

You might find this difficult to believe, but until this weekend I'd never knowingly read an Agatha Christie novel.

I was in a youth hostel, had finished the books I'd taken and had to pick from their shelves.

Having chosen and then decided against several of the more likely options, I came across 'Lord Edgeware Dies'. On the inside of the cover, it reminded me that 'Agatha Christie' is known throughout the world as the Queen Of Crime'. That was the clincher. It also seemed thin enough for me to g

Another classic Hercule Poirot. I really had no idea that the story would end at the beginning, so-to-speak. Hercule was fooled, but only for a little while. Nice little mystery, with classic Agatha Christie twists and turns.

Lord Edgware is murdered shortly after his wife, Jane Wilkinson, has openly confessed to Poirot and Hastings that she would love to bump him off because he won't agree to a divorce. She is the obvious suspect but the time of Lord Edgware's death coincides with a dinner gathering that Lady Edgware attends with twelve friends. So Jane's alibi is cemented and Poirot must exercise his grey cells.

There are suspects aplenty in this whodunnit and multiple murders. For us, and our unreliable biographer
