There is not much epic poetry being written these days. You have to give credit to Alan Moore for being so willing to be an author utilizing different mediums. The work, however, is historically brilliant but rythmically dull. It is grand in scope, telling the history of homosexual love in verse, but feels distance, stand-offish, metallic, forced, I cannot find the adjective I need. The images are hit and miss. Interesting work, but it fails to be what it could.

This book is a poem with photograph illustrations looking at the history of homosexuality. It is elegant and poignant. I think Alan Moore does a beautiful job of addressing an important topic without becoming preachy and overbearing. The last page is one of the more beautiful closes to poem I've ever read.

I labeled this as "poetry," but that doesn't really do it justice. It's a poem, by comic book writer Alan Moore, detailing the history of homosexuality, with gorgeous illustrations by Jose Villarrubia. It's just beautiful in every way.
