Me, Myself & Paris is author Ruth Yunker's droll pastiche of her days, free and unaccompanied, in Paris. Three years in a row she rents an apartment, stays for six weeks, and takes on Paris, half resident, half visitor. She is a short attention span tourist, a wide-eyed voyeur, and irreverence saves the day when the chips are down. Her stories are about bonhomie and sa...more

I received this book for review awhile back...a long while back and always seemed to keep putting it off, until I read French Toast. I was a bit disgusted with that one and wanted to try another viewpoint. I'm glad I did.

Ruth sums up Paris much the same way as Harriet Welty Rochefort did, but more from a tourist standpoint. After all, she only spent 6 weeks there for several years, whereas Harriet was a transplanted American in Paris.

Ruth however makes reading about the cultures more fun. She te...more

I'm loving this book! This is a collection of short stories. Ruth tells us about her daily escapades while living in Paris, getting through the days of her escape from America. Although, I don't know why she would leave the beauty of Newport Beach, CA., then again, she did escape to Paris!
I've always wanted to go to Paris. But after reading her stories, I will have to give the trip some more thought. I like to smile and say hello to strangers! (Ruth - do you think I'd be run out of town for doi...more

I had seen this book around, and saw the rave reviews on Amazon, and thought it was going to be a funny look at one woman's journey to Paris.
It was a good story, in essay format, but it lacked in humor for me.
It was set in Paris, a city I hope to one day see. Even more so after reading this book and hearing how Ruth describes it. You really do get a feel for what it must be like there.
Just not a book I will remember a week from now. Sorry.

I just returned from a 12 day trip to Paris so I thought this would be fun to read, and I was right. I like her style, and I enjoyed knowing the landmarks, and situations (metro wind tunnels, hard to please Parisians, claustrophobic staircases, language difficulties, Euro exact change issues. A fun, light read - very enjoyable if you have ever experienced the French "joie de vivre".

Kindle suggested this as a book I might like based on my Paris travel book purchases. It was cheap and looked like a quick, fun read, so I bought it. Well, it was quick, but not fun. The author professes a love for Paris, but mostly bitched and whined her way through the book, coming across as very much the Southern Californian that she is. Skip it. Blech.

This book is very funny, the voice is very immediate and authentic. The author doesn't hold back her fears and embarrassments associated with being an ingenue in Paris. Many funny scenes. Some details could help a tourist (like about Metro tickets) but the best help will be to make you laugh at your gaucheries and admire both the intensity and culture of Parisians.

An enjoyable memoir about an American woman living in Paris. Ruth's writing is funny and a bit irreverent at times. But, she captures the essence of a woman looking for and discovering passion for life. The book is written as a series of vignettes and we read her experiences of day to day life in Paris. The metro, the store, museums and parks and people. She gives a great, funny, insider's view of Parisians.

I've visited Paris, but I've never lived there nor stayed for a long period of time. I t...more

Really fun read for anyone who has been to Paris

This woman does a fine job of TRYING to like Paris, and ultimately, failing...in every chapter. It's like going to dinner with a friend who hates everything THEY order. Blergh.

I enjoyed this light-hearted, sometimes tongue-in-cheek romp through Paris with the author. She revisits her three summers there and shares what she learns ~ about Paris, about traveling and mostly about herself. There is a lot of humor and quite a bit of insight dished out in this quick read. I think a lot of women will relate to the author and her trials and tribulations traveling to an unknown country alone.

Not so good but really easy to get through. I had hoped it would be funnier but it was short, dry and lacking in any color.

I adore Paris, but I'm not sure the author of this book does. This book is mostly just snippets of stories of her time visiting Paris. It's a bit disjointed, and there's no flow. It's as if you're sitting with someone, hearing about their travels as they remember bits and pieces.
