From the cozy confines of a tiny seaside village to the glittering crush of a fashionable London soiree comes an enthralling tale of a thoroughly mismatched couple…poised to discover the rapture of love.

There was no doubt about it. What Miss Harriet Pomeroy needed was a man. Someone powerful and clever who could help her rout the unscrupulous thieves who were using her be...more

Ravished is one of my all-time favorite Amanda Quick novels. It's a wonderful story with likable characters and I must have read it at least 3 times already. Gideon is a scarred, brooding, semi-outcast whose own parents don't believe in his innocence. Despite having more reason to be bitter and harsh than the immature heros of many other romances, Gideon never behaves like a jerk or takes out his anger on the heroine. He can be arrogant and dictatorial, but he is tender to and proud of Harriet f...more

I like Beauty and the Beast tales and Ravished is many reader's favorite Amanda Quick novel, so I chose it as my introduction to her work. I'm glad to say I was not disappointed. :)

I loved Gideon from the start and he was everything but The Beast of Blackthorne Hall, the nickname he received due to his "shady" reputation and his sinister appearance. I was expecting to meet a dark, tortured hero, but he was actually quite funny. Harriet was a different matter and it took me some time t...more

I've seen this listed as a fave on many lists and thought I'd give it a go. I like Amanda Quick but have never been overly wowed by her work. The dialogue is often clever and witty and I've enjoyed that but for the most part the stories tend to sound about the same. Something about this novel really grabbed me though. I can see how it would be a fave with her fans and I'm glad I finally got to read it.

Harriet lives out in the country with her aunt and sister. She is an avid fossil collector and spends much time in the nearby caves. When she finds what she believes to be smuggling activities, she calls in Gideon, the viscount, to take care of the problem so that she can go back to excavating her cave. Gideon is drawn to her and after he accidentally compromises her, he decides that they must marry. However, Gideon has a very dark past and is almost a pariah, causing some trouble when they go t...more

I LOVED this...Harriet is a fossil collector...The Beast of Blackthorne thinks that may be why she doesn't seem to notice the huge scar on Gideon's face.

Harriet is a different kind of leading charactor, she's got backbone and she's bossy, but only for a good cause.

Gideon has been hurt by society and his family for so long, he's pretty sure that he can't ever love again, but he is certainly taken with Harriet.

This is a journey toward each other...and love...with a few dramas along the way.

I like...more

Oh dear oh no. Smutty regency strikes again. And I'm smitteeennn. Amanda Quick's works are pretty much the standard fare, same old ye olde barbarian/wild rake kind, but this one rises above the rest of her novels (along with her other one, The Paid Companion.)
Its an all-over feel good novel, full of meaningless fluff (its sooooo fluffy), and its a fun, fun read that doesn't take up much time or brainspace. The hero and heroine are more likable than the standard stuff you get from other smutty r...more

I was amazed how much I loved this book. I used to read a lot of romance novels, but grew tired of them, and very few romance authors have held much interest for me in the past few years. Interesting historical romance authors are even harder for me to find. But I love her Arcane Series historical novels, and with the added recommendation of my mother, decided to give this one a try. And I am so glad I did! From the very first scene, I was hooked, and I finished it one sitting, only stopping to...more

At first, I thought the book was cute and shallow. Before long, I realized it was adorable and ridiculous.

Harriet is outspoken, bossy, and delightful. When she and Gideon butt heads, their dialogue brings a stupid grin to my face.

Ignore the dated, tawdry back cover/love scene phrases. The whole book is done with such a simple, light, good humor that it was great fun to read. Even the dreadful title was used so often and amusingly in the book, that now I'm fond of it.

There was a lot of repetition...more

Absolutely wonderful! This is one of my favourites of A. Quick's. A lovely beauty and the beast them with every part of the story hitting the mark.

You know one of stories with heroes you want to stand up and defend so badly? This is one of those.

Ravished is yes, a small example of the Beauty and the Beast; a scarred hero with a bad reputation and a chance of love; that is were the similarities ends.

The plot:

Long story short: Our heroine asked for our heroes help when she discovered a theif hideout of stolen goods. They ended up being trapped in a cave where they made love (hot by the way). Hero marries the heroine because of honor and such...more

This was truly all about romance and no sub plots and misunderstandings going on! Light, witty and enjoyable with many LoL moments!!! Harriet and Gideon were very enjoyable characters in their own way.
' Before anyone realized Rushton's intention, he grabbed the glass of
champagne out of Lady Youngstreet's hand and dashed the contents
straight into Gideon's face.
Rage swept through Harriet. "Do not call him a Beast, damn you."
She hurled the champagne in her own glass into Rush-ton's star...more

Enjoyed it. Continuing with the Amanda Quick reading marathon…The heroine, Harriet Pomeroy, is a typical self assured capable 25 year old Quick heroine who summons the hero to her house (he is the “lord” of the neighborhood) because she is concerned about smugglers using the caves she likes to explore when looking for fossils. The hero, Gideon Westbrook aka the Viscount St. Justin, actually owns the caves and spends very little time in the neighborhood. He also has a horrible reputation for supp...more

I love this book. I've read other books that I easily gave 5 stars too that I didn't enjoy as much as this one. Its not perfect. The romance happens a little too quickly. The villian is cookie-cutter and easy to figure out. The secondary characters are slightly underdeveloped, especially Felicity (sister to Harriet) and Owl (former boxer turned butler for Gideon). The ending is a little too happy with standard baby epilogue. But, I really don't care. This is a go out immediately and buy all the...more

I *loved* this book. The writing was not perfect, but the storyline and characterizations more than made up for that!

The best part of this book for me was the way it avoided all those tired old romance cliches -- most particularly the one where if the hero and heroine would just talk to each other the central conflict would be solved in 5 pages. Gideon and Harriet just plain *don't* have misunderstandings. They each have their own internal conflicts, and they have believable conflict in their re...more

This was quite a fun read, Harriet Pomeroy is 25 years-old, her father is dead but she and her sister with their companions live in the Rectory. She is annoyed when what appears to be smugglers or thieves invade her fossil-hunting space and she summons the lord of the manor, Gideon Westbrook, Viscount St Justin to her aid. Gideon is scarred both physically and mentally but she finds herself attracted to him.

When they deal with the gang invading her territory she can't help but get involved which...more

This is not a book review. This is me sounding my barbaric yawp over the smut-loving rooftops of the world.

In a recent bout of unproductiveness (which, let's face it, really comprises about 85% of my day, with 10% of the remaining 15% being eating, and you have to work bathroom breaks in there, too...) a little web searching led me to a list of romance novels that involve paleontologists. I've always had this rage of jealousy...more

I mostly gave up on the romance genre already, but I'm still giving it chances, just to be fair.

The Smart Bitches (www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com) talk about romance as a genre that can be "intelligent, savvy, feminist and fabulous", and about how a large contingency of people don't like the genre based on one book they read. I'm trying not to be in that contingency. I would love to love romances. I already read romantic fanfiction, for Chrissakes. Still, I can't help the feeling that if a rom...more

Ravished is beloved my many readers and has been in my TBR pile for some time. After many disappointing reads lately, I was excited to get out of my slump by reading something that comes highly recommended by so many. I finally picked up Ravished. After a sluggish start I had some doubt, but KEEP GOING! The last half was priceless and I can honestly say that it lived up to all the hype! It's a keeper.

The CHARACTERS are what make this book special. There is a mystery within it's pages that's oka...more

A friend compared this book to eating candy. At first I was worried she would be handing me this candy from the back of a windowless van, but she didn't steer me wrong.

I am the type of romance reader that usually runs screaming from historicals. I can now say I won't be anywhere near as reluctant to read one in the future.

This book did have some old fashioned language and social cues. I was able to follow the story effortlessly, however. This book was a giant happy sigh. The story ebbed and flo...more

Yes, Amanda Quick two in a row. And, ugh, could not stand the heroine of this novel. Now, I'm all for strong heroines who don't need a man for everything, but Ms. Harriet Pomeroy took it to an irritating extreme. When she wasn't talking about fossils, she was shrilly demanding that Gideon Westbrook do whatever she says because she known the best! Unfortunately, every time she demands that, chaos ensues. I mean, doesn't she realize the correlation after the first three times? And I still don't un...more

What I like about this book is that the two main characters are not particularly beautiful or handsome by society's standards except to each other.

Most romance books have characters that are physically attractive who are very talented at degrading themselves. These two characters are a great example of beauty being in the eyes of the beholder. They were attracted to and liked each other just as themselves. No need for makeovers or other people's definition of what beauty is because what mattered...more

A really wonderful feel-good romance. The bluestocking heroine made me laugh, and I enjoyed her unfaltering loyalty to "The Beast." It was nice to read about a couple who wern't at eachother's throats, or suspicious of eachother, or denying attraction the entire novel. Here we have a couple who get along marvelously and care for eachother throughout the trials in the book. It was fun to read.

Unknowingly, I've read this earlier in 2008. I had no idea, since Amanda Quick's covers and titles have a striking resemblance. Titles are one word, and cover is one-colored too, but in different shades and featuring an object.

The title and characters were a little forgotten to me, however, the story and plot are etched in my cranium.

As I flip the pages, I begin to become immersed in a different world, pleasant and achingly familiar, however I do not drown, for romances as sweet as this could su...more

I have to admit, I picked this book out of Amanda Quick's catalog just because the heroine's name was Harriet. Such an old-fashioned, almost dour name, I was intrigued. It helped, though, that Harriet is thoroughly charming, quirky and in charge. She charges her way into Gideon's life, and encourages him to learn to love again.

Ravished follows along the same sort of plotline as Quick's Scandal; however, it also contains a tantalizing mystery that kept me reading late into the night. And this ti...more

I truly enjoyed this Regency romance, despite it being along marriage of convenience lines. (The marriage of convenience plot is all over the romance genre and a third of the stories on a romance reading list I just worked through fit within the trope.) Written in a fairly clean style, holding point of view and without purple prose--the kind of story that pulls you in and in a few hours you look up blinking having finished the book. The hero is one of those misunderstood men(tm) whose fearsome e...more

This book opens in Upper Biddleton, with Harriet Pomeroy sketching her fossils. Gideon, Viscount St. Justin came across her. From the beginning I found the dialogue intriguing. Having met people absorbed in their hobbies, Harriet’s fascination for her fossils is well done. When they are forced to stay in the caves together at night, they become engaged. Harriet has very wavered from her views of St. Justin. Everyone else see him as a cad and without honor. When the Pomeroys go to London, Gideon...more

If you can get beyond the silly title, which has little in common with the actual story, this is a delightful Regency-era Beauty and the Beast-like take with a touch of mystery thrown in for good measure. The characters dont spend too much time lamenting on their fate or actions, and unlike similarly styled books, the few romance scenes don't feel contrived or overly cliched (if you've read more than one romance, you know those ridiculous ways of describing their tortured throbbing)! Instead we'...more

I was surprised I liked this book as much as I did even though it initially felt just a little silly. The use of the word "ravished" in the beginning gave me a chuckle. But, as the story progressed, it emerged from, what I call silly, into witty. I almost felt like I was watching an Agatha Christie play.

The dynamic between Gabriel and Harriet was great and I found their dialogue to be humorous and enjoyable. I liked the fact that Harriet was so resolute in her constant defense of Gabriel. Her co...more

“When you are rich and powerful, no one will challenge you to your face or give you a chance to explain yourself. All the whispers are behind your back. You are left with no means of clearing your own name. And after a while you realize there is no point in even attempting to do so. No one wants the truth.
