Romance novel for rapists, murderers, and cannibals. Although I am none of those, I just can't stop reading it either.

After reading "Portrait of the Author as a Young Psychopath," I went out looking for more of Ed Lee or Elizabeth Steffen's work. I found this book. After reading it, it became clear to me that everything I liked about the earlier book I'd read must have been contributed by Elizabeth Steffens. Very disappointing.

The best words I could use to describe this book, and indeed much of Lee's writing, have already been said by Tim Krider in his review of this book for the City Paper:

recommends it for: NO ONE!!!
someone loanded me this recently and i could not finish it. i actually got angry at the person and may think less of them now. it is one of the worst things i've ever tried to read. I (possibly) could have got past it being intentionally disgusting (colostomy bag hole rape, anyone?), if it we'ren't so poorly written. really, the awkward, sub-standard prose and apparent complete lack of editing was even more sickening than the dicidely foul subject matter. HOW DOES SHIT LIKE THIS GET PUBLISHED?!?

I would give this book a four but I had a problem with a few of the things that occurred in the book. Personal taste really. I would say this is the sickest book I have ever read, and I had to put it down and come back to it several times. But I say all of that kind of in a good way.

OMG!
What a trippy mind-f*ck! If you like gruesome Appalachian hillbillies this is for you. I was scarrr'd to be home alone while reading this one. . .

Thought it was going to be super brutal. Ended up being super stupid. (And the "restored" original ending is unforgivably idiotic.)

This was probably one of the dumbest books I've ever read. Brutal and sick for grossness sake only. Yuck.

Possibly the most vile and disgusting thing I've ever read in my life. But....I kinda liked it.
