The Atlantic Paranormal Society, also known as T.A.P.S., is the brainchild of two plumbers by day, paranormal investigators by night: Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson. Their hair-raising investigations, fueled by their unique abilities and a healthy dose of scientific method, have made them the subject of a hit TV show: the SCI FI Channel's Ghost Hunters.

This book has been thrust upon me by a friend who keeps asking what I thought of it so I'd better get going. I like the show, even though it's pretty repetitive and they never seem to find hardcore evidence but I've experienced some weird things myself that others have missed even when in the same freaking room so I buy it.

So far it's interesting. It goes into the backstories of the regulars on the show and gives insight into why they do what they do. I nearly took a Reiki class once and after r...more

I couldn't help myself. Once I'd heard that Jason and Grant had written a book about their experiences pre-Ghost Hunters and beyond, I was beyond excited.

The first half of the book is intriguing. There are backstories for all the regulars on the show (I didn't know that Steve was a police officer!) and some neat tidbits about the cofounders, themselves (Jason swears by green olives to chase away the "dead people").

After the introductions, there is a chapter devoted to each investigation. The pr...more

A fun read!

Die-hard fans of the show may be a little bummed about some stuff, though: First, I would have loved to hear a little more about the cast/TAPS members as people... the full stories behind their motivation to hunt ghosts, their phobias, etc. I can totally understand that they want the focus to be more on what they do as opposed to who they are (I respect them very much for wanting to remain professional instead of becoming celebrities), but that understanding still didn't stop me from...more

I devoured this book, but only because I love Ghost Hunters so much. Goodness, I just can't get enough of that show. The book truly is only for die-hard fans, because a lot of it is a recap of Ghost Hunters episodes. The book would have been a million times more interesting if Jason and Grant would finally divulge their initial personal experiences that made them believers in the supernatural! I don't know why they have to be so damn reticent on the topic. Anyway, pick up the book at the library...more

The book is about 2 Roto Rooter plumbers by day and a team of ghost hunters by night that go by the name of T.A.P.S (see title for what they stand for). They and their team go into places that are supposedly haunted and investigate using all sorts of paraphernalia. They take video, photos, and voice recordings all those sorts of things. After they are done with the investigations they go over their data and analyze it to see if they picked up anything un-natural. Then they go back to their clien...more

Dull dull dull. I've never seen this "Ghost Hunters" or "TAPS" or whatever it's called - we don't get it over here. I picked this up solely because I enjoy reading true paranormal stories/ghost investigations. This could possibly be the only case EVER of the book being worse than the movie/tv show. Cos surely the tv show is more detailed? K? Yes?

Each case written about is approx 3 pages long. With a tiny little paragraph at the end of each by the other guy, Grant. Gives us NO added information...more

From the show Ghost Hunters, it's basically just Jason briefing over some cases that they didn't film for the show, with Grant making brief commentary at the end of each case.
The book reads (probably) more like a documentary than ghost stories. There's a lack of description beyond gender and age of the clients and reads more like someone telling you a story face to face. It makes sense considering it's origin, I just don't find it good story telling.
It's also disturbing how much Jason refers to...more

A very intereting insight into how one of the most respected & ground breaking teams of paranormal investigators came to be. This volume charts some of their more memorable investigations, from the very early days (before the cameras followed them around...) to more recent stake outs... there are insights into how Jason Hawes & Grand Wilson came to be interested in the paranormal, & how they have built their team & established a work ethic which is arguably the bench mark in para...more

Well it's pretty much what I expected it to be. I know the guys, Jason and grant, are men of few words, but I would have loved a little more meat to the stories. However I do have to say that I respect their more scientific approach to the paranormal: look for the normal before you look for the paranormal. That just seems right. I am such a sucker for those crazy ghost hunting shows in which it is all about somebody quickly turning the camera into to heir own faces and then say, "did you see tha...more

I am a big fan of the original Ghost Hunters series, so Mom brought this home from the library for me. It's a fast read, nothing groundbreaking. But it is definitely a fun and creepy collection of stories, if you like this sort of thing--which I do. The book moves in chronological order, and so the most interesting cases are the ones before they got famous, mostly because we're hearing about them for the first time. When I started to recognize cases from the show, it got slightly less interestin...more

Ghost hunting by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson with Michael Jan Friedman is a book that was published a few years ago. In the book you read about how the paranormal team called TAPS got started. You may recognize this from the show Ghost Hunters on the Scifi Channel. Over the all this book is Okay. I was disappointed in it though. I wanted to know more about what was that moment when you first became aware of a haunting. I know they experienced things at least that is what I have read elsewhere b...more

Okay, I realize that not everyone believes in ghosts/the supernatural, but I challenge you to pick up this book and see just how much work these two guys and their team put into finding evidence that there is something out there. I am from the point of view that I do believe, but like Jason and Grant, won't just assume because a light went on there is a ghost doing it! I love that they take the time to figure out if there is actually something going on with the electrical wiring, or if there is...more

This was a leftover book that I never got around to reading during the R.I.P. reading challenge held this past October. I think I've seen the show only once or twice. The book begins with a brief introduction as to how the T.A.P.S. team came together and how paranormal investigations are carried out. The rest of the book consists of a brief one to two page summary of some of the cases that the T.A.P.S. team has investigated. The Myrtles Plantation which is well known to be one of if not the most...more

I just finished "Ghost Hunting--True Stories of Unexplained Phenomena from The Atlantic Paranormal Society". In short T.A.P.S.

For those of you who don't know that would be the team of "Ghost Hunters" on the SciFi channel, headed by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson.

The book was written by them with the help of Michael Jan Friedman.

I loved it. As a matter of fact I started it yesterday morning at 7 and finished it yesterday evening at 7. It was captivating, fascinating and fun. Several of the stories...more

Sometimes I think I am a little more Scully even though I think I'm more like Mulder. I couldn't help but have a slight air of cynicism while reading this book - perhaps because Ghost Hunters has been on air so long and become a tired shell of itself as the same tricks are employed week after week with little evidence to show. And yet strangely, the first few stories in this book are filled with fantastic experiences, of course which no camera ever recorded. The other case studies are just recou...more

I really wanted to hate this book, but I just ate it up. I used to watch a lot of Ghost Hunters but I was constantly annoyed because nothing happens... What this book did is instead of waste an hour of my time I read a four page summary. Nice and concise. The book reawakened my interest in paranormal happenings.

The end of the book started to overlap the show so that was repetitive for someone who watches it. Then the book becomes more about practical jokes and staff relationships than the cases...more

First of all I am not really a fan of the Ghost Hunters TV show, so I am probably not one of the primary readers of this book. I find the show boring and often repetitive. Perhaps that's just how ghost hunting is, not only excitement and adventure. That said I think the book is still a very good read and the stories were varied and interesting. I like that they not only took stories with real hauntings but also stories that could be explained naturally.

This book was a lot like watching the show, but with a little more behind the scenes commentary. The most frustrating thing about it is that you want to see what they are talking about. Fortunately I had seen the episodes with most of these stories on them, so I could picture various appearances. Overall, ghost hunters should stick to the tv show, this would have been much more interesting as a dvd commentary, or a behind the scenes special. It's a good book to read just a story at a time, proba...more

Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson are part time plumbers and part time ghost hunters. Their show "Ghost Hunters" is one of the top shows on the Sci Fi network. The book "Ghost Hunting" covers some of the first cases the pair have investigated including the first season of the show. I really enjoyed this book because there are a lot of behind the scenes stories. Don't read this book though before going to bed. You might have nightmares!!

I read this book as research for a novel about the paranormal. It is not very informative about the details of the paranormal, but it helped me become familiar with the technology and terminology of ghost hunting. It also had a helpful glossary in the back.

It's basically a first-hand account of "T.A.P's" experiences hunting ghosts. It is a series of ghost stories, one after the other, each of them about two to three pages long.

I love the Ghost Hunters, so it was pretty much guaranteed that I was going to like this book. I enjoyed reading about their earlier investigations, but eventually they cover places that they've been to on the show (which I'm very familiar with, having watched the DVDs more than I should admit to). There was some mention of things that did not make it into the show and other behind-the-scenes details, and that was cool.

This book is almost a companion to the Ghost Hunters T.V. series. It goes a little more in depth into some of the cases they have had on the show. I've had some experiences myself, so no nay sayer will ever convince me that the paranormal is not real. Everyone wants concrete proof of everything, and no one is ready to accept any proof they see or hear about. This was an awesome book and it's an awesome series.
Robyn
Do not get me wrong; I love the Ghost Hunters, and I think that was the problem. I think this would be a great book for someone who doesn't know some of their earlier televised cases nearly by heart. I liked getting their personal takes on it, and hearing about their experiences which didn't make it into the show, but I zipped through a lot of it because it wasn't interesting to someone who had heard it before.

A great book if your a fan of the show...The first couple of chapters are how they started out how they started which they never really go into depth in the show but it is very interesting. The final chapters though are like watching the show it goes into details about what they saw in various places. Really good for someone thinking about getting into paranormal research or just interested in it...

there were alot more intense cases done by taps than just the ones you see on tv. and being that we all know how skeptical and scientific that jason hawes is, i knew that everything was true. there were cases of exorcisms, that do not go public. and of course, HAUNTINGS!!!!!!!
there is a ghost hunters guide/rules chapter in the back and a glossary. it was very interesting and informative.

A good, fast read especially if you are a fan of the show. The bulk of the book consists of case synopses rather than technical how to's. The summaries provide some fun, behind the scenes info, but not too much new if you've seen the episodes in question. There are summaries of cases which did not appear on the show as well though, so it isn't all old hat.

Worth picking up.

I have been interested in the Paranormal since I was assigned a book report on 'Ghosts' by my 3rd grade teacher. So, The Television show 'Ghost Hunters' was a natural fit for me. This is the first book compiled by lead investigators of the television show. It is a very clearly written book of case studies.

Very highly recommended if you are interested in this topic.

I really enjoyed this book, and the stories of the T.A.P.S. team and their investigations. Some investigations we saw on the television series, but the book added more insight and interesting information about those. Other investigations were never on the show. It was interesting, and enjoyable. Though I kinda want to sleep with the lights on tonight.

It would be hard for me NOT to enjoy this book. I've been a huge fan of the authors since before they were famous. This is a great inside look at cases investigated long before the TV show. Some of the events described are incredible and I would never believe had they not come from Jason and Grant. A must for any Ghost Hunter.

I love the SyFy series Ghost Hunters. I've watched it since it's first year on tv. This book is an easy read. The first couple of chapters deals with explaining how Jason and Grant began their group called T.A.P.S. in RI. That was interesting-I had not heard most of that before reading the chapters. The rest of the book is like short stories. Each chapter is a different investigation. Many of those investigations have been the subject of the tv series. Still it's a good read.
