This book should be required reading for everyone intending to go for any kind of medical evaluation or treatment.
Although when I say this I am not implying that more than a few people passing themselves off as medical professions would ever act this way, the fact that it happened anywhere or ever should be enough to inspire people to yank all so-called professionals down off their high in the sky pedestals and look at them as people, not gods.

My favorite true crime book that doesn't involve murder. This doctor raped dozens of women and girls of a Mormon town during gynecological exams. I actually called him and talked to him on the phone for a few minutes (until his wife had lunch ready) when he got out of prison. He lives in the same house in Lovell as he ever did, and he was totally listed in the white pages!

Dr. Story takes advantage of naïve and passive Mormon women in his general practice in Lowell, Wyoming, and almost succeeds in getting away with his crimes.
Well-written, creepy, and emotionally difficult, but definitely a worthwhile read. Weaves together religion, women’s issues, and politics seamlessly. Recommended.

This is a very well researched, thorough investigation of an amazing sequence of events involving one small town in Wyoming back in the 80s. For those who like true crime, something short of gore and grotesqueness, I would recommend this book. People can be very conservative, and the book proves it.

My grandmother grew up in Lovell. She had the book on her shelf in her home. I sort of snuck it and read it while visiting at her house. I was very young, I wish I could ask her what she knew about it now. I need to read it again.

Wow This was another great book by Jack Olsen.
I got so angry at those town people.
I was really shocked reading this, and yes stunned that LSD and mormons alike, are still so ignorant.

One of my VPs at the Hospital ordered this book from Amazon for me, mostly to show me that it really happened. 25 years of abuse to the women in a town of ~2000 - unbelieveable read. I read it in one sitting.

An essay about the infamous Dr. John Story and his rape of the women and girls of the town of Lovell, Wy. True crime stories sometimes make for dry reading, but not this time. This one was chilling.

religion and/or true crime lovers (and likers)
I love Jack Olsen, and this is the definitive Olsen. It's a striking look into rape, Mormonism, secrecy, honor and rural sociology. Fascinating.
