Winterfair Gifts (Vorkosigan Saga #12.5)
This Hugo-nominated novella adds a delightful extra chapter to Bujold’s acclaimed Vorkosigan series. Falling in between the novels A Civil Campaign and Diplomatic Immunity, it describes the wedding of Miles and Ekaterin and the events leading up to it.
In the festive season of Winterfair on the planet Barrayar, Lord Miles Vorkosigan is making elaborate preparations for his

This short story forms an epilogue of sorts to Komarr and A Civil Campaign. It is told from the viewpoint of armsman Roic. A few days before Miles and Ekaterin’s wedding guests in the form of Miles’ friends from the Dendarii Free Mercenaries arrive. Taura in particular is focused on in a brief tale leading up to the wedding.

This is a follow up novella to A Civil Campaign told from the perspective of one of the minor supporting characters.
Seeing events through another character's eyes puts a unique perspective on events leading up to a major event. I find it interesting that the author chose to make a major event happen in a novella, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading this.

A thoroughly enjoyable, quick read. I especially enjoyed getting Armsman Roic's point of view, and seeing a little more of Sgt. Taura. The ending is perhaps a bit bittersweet, but still thoroughly enjoyable. Roic's viewpoint of Miles, Ekaterin, Cordelia and Aral is particularly interesting. Because of his status as a trusted yet invisible servant he sees a lot, but due to his youth and inexperience he doesn't always understand all of it. Yet Bujold manages to leave plenty of lines for the astute...more
(actually read in electronic version of omnibus edition Miles in Love)
I liked the view of the crazy Vorkosigan clan through the eyes of one of the Armsmen. The actual storyline was fairly predictable, but it was lovely to see Taura again (yay, Taura!) and I think it was nice to have the wedding in there, just to complete the storyline.

Good for what it is. Very short, fast read. Nice exploration of a couple secondary characters and a little mystery. Some of Miles's Auditor business seems a trifle forced, but it's still a good story. Since we didn't get Miles's wedding in A Civil Campaign, I was looking forward to it.
The thing I enjoy about a long running series, is that on occasion, the author will give us a perspective outside of the main characters. I would have never imagined reading a Miles Vorkosigan adventure from the perspective of the night watchman, but am very gad that his creator did. A wonderful read!
This is a quick read about the drama and danger surrounding Miles Vorkosigan's wedding, from the point of view of his Armsman, Roic. It was nice to see some of the Dendarii on Barrayar, and to have an update on Taura. Completists will definitely want to hunt this down before moving on to Diplomatic Immunity.
Hmm. The story of the wedding of Miles Vorkosigan. I was looking for this one everywhere, and finally found it. It is OK, and Ekaterin comes across well, but as other characters are the focus of the story Miles doesn't get to run on as he usually does. I want more Miles!
Oh, how I love riding along on Bujold's pitch-perfect point-of-view experiments. In this novella, we get Miles's wedding -- the culmination of at least two books worth of angst -- as told by a minor, barely-named character from the most recent novel. And it works.
A sweet little mystery/romance/comedy/disaster novella in the Miles Vorkosigan tradition. Sadly, told in 3rd person limited POV of a less than exciting character... interesting to read, but not nearly as much fun as the usual tone of the series.

TAURA. THAT IS ALL.
Or, well. I liked how this story did a lot of things, but the thing it did best was illustrate how the passage of time has shifted Barrayar thinking for the average person very far from where it used to be. This was bloody adorable.

A delightful short story about Mile's wedding...but told from an Armsman's point of view. I found it very sweet and fulfilling, but I am a romantic who has been in love with the series for quite a while.
Wonderful short story featuring Taura and Armsman Roic as the main characters with Miles' wedding as the backdrop. I wish it was longer because I didn't want it to end!
A wonderful short story, detailing the the splendid Vorkosigan marriage and the events leading up to it. A lovely book, and it just left me wanting more :)
While I didn't enjoy it as much after the fun I had with A Civil Campaign, it was still fun to stick around the Vorkosigan world.

A short story about Miles and Ekaterin's wedding. It's told from Armsman Roic's view and was kind of refreshing to see things from his prospective. . Very sweet episode with Taura, too! If you read the series, I would definitely recommend adding this short story to your collection.
This is what Bujold's writing should be--tightly paced, emotionally engaging, demonstrating character growth. Loved it.
Audio book.
Very nice! I'm very fond of this novella, but the audio book was entrancing. I usually listen while sewing and I kept putting my work down so I could hear the story!

Lovely little side-story, but with the main characters as serious backdrop. Interesting.
This was a fun short story. Very short, but still good.
A very sweet chapter in the saga of Miles Vorkorsigan.
love this series. It's hard to find comedy and sci-fi!

Well, that was quick!
novella
Don't expect a "real" book, it's just a very minor addition to the Vorkosigan series. Not bad for what it is.
2.0 stars. I am a BIG Miles Vorkosigan fan but I was disappointed in this Novella. It was not bad, but it was also not good (hence the "okay" rating). The prose was good (as usual from Bujold) but the events of the story were just not compelling enough to warrant this stand alone Novella.
I highly recommend the Vorkosigan saga, but don't start with this story.
Nominee: Hugo Award for Best Novella.
