I found sections of this book interesting and fun to read but, the author is very dis-jounted, jumping back and forth between past and present. He also introduces to many characters into the book, making it difficult to keep track of were the story is going.
The idea and premise of the book are good. Slowly bringing the past into the present but it was a clumsy attempt, that should have been cleaned up in editing.
I haven't read any other books by this Author but it was almost like they th...more

I'm not sure if I liked this one or not. The concept of a lost origianl first draft of the constitution is fascinating, and I liked the way the story was told during the present search and jumping backward in time to show each step the document made throughout history. But...it did have quite a bit of political mumbo-jumbo floating throughout that I though weighed the story down, plus a few explict scences that popped up quite unexpectedly. It was interesting tale though. It made me think of tho...more

Similar to DaVinci Code. Lookingt for a lost historical document - part of the US Constitution. Author vascillates between the past and the present through a multitude of characters. I felt I needed a genealogy chart to keep up with all the characters. Some of the present day scenes weren't realistic. Read for book club - most people were luke warm to the book. The reference to the history was well done

I hoped this would be as enjoyable as the "National Treasure" stories, but it didn't take long to discover that it is mere porn in disguise. There are way too many characters to keep track of, none of whom being particularly interesting or endearing enough to care about. Worst of all, this book is so incredibly crude that I could not even bring myself to finish it. I've heard locker room talk that was classier than this!

I had high hopes for this book after the first few chapters, but ended up really disappointed. The premise is good and the historical detail is gratifying, but there are far too many characters to keep straight. The pay-off of what is actually on the first draft of the Constitution was not "sexy" enough to drive the story and keep me engaged through the 752 pages. By the end, I was glad it was over.

I'm on a quest to learn more about this country's origins and the rgeat documents that established it, this helps put a personal touch. Here and there I get to understand that all that we have now is so easily taken for granted when it was such a dangerous and instable endeavour at it's inception. Nice read.

I like the plotting and the pace of this book. The author alternates chapters from the revolution to the present until they merge tracing the path of the lost constitution. The history is interesting and the author obviously does his research carefully. Not a great book but a good read.

Oh my goodness. This book started out with such promise and potental. But after 750+ pages, I just about lost it. The story was overly long and drawn out and didn't really come to any sort of satisfying conclusion to match the build-up.

Another fine work by William Martin, in the great tradition of "Cape Cod." This book is a bit more complicated and the story line goes off in a few hard to follow directions. But, its another great historical adventure!

I really liked this book although the ending was weak. It alternates between a modern search for a lost version of the US Constitution and the document's opwners through US history which I found interesting.

This was okay - kind of Da Vinci Code meets National Treasure surrounding the making of the Constitution. If you aren't a law junky or into American history, probably not worth the time.

Another great William Martin book. Loved it! Great read. It's got it all - history, drama, intelligent characters, great locations, and antiquarian books.

Enjoyed it, Liked Cape Cod better. Somewhat difficult to keep track of all the characters, but that did not take away from the story, once I got into it.

Stil reading this historical fiction mystery which bounces from 1787 to present day. It is a page turner.

Hmmm...disappointing. I love the historical perspective, but the book was all over the map.

I liked this one better than Harvard Yard. But was still a little slow at parts for me.
