Don't let the 4 out of 5 stars fool you into thinking this is good, inventive writing. I picked these books up for nostalgic purposes. Back in the early '90s, when I was an adolescent (oh how I date myself), I read and reread these books. They were so romantic and exciting. I remember even then being annoyed by the hack writing, but overlooking it because of the fantastic nature of the stories. I mean come on, who wouldn't fall for a tall, dark handsome vampire with an Italian accent. I'm only h...more

So, this was the second time I read The Vampire Diaries and I still loved every single part. The insta-love and the love triangles just don't bother me when it's written by L.J. Smith.

There is no denying that the Vampire Diaries novels get even sillier as the series progresses. I'm talking about things on the order of the spirit of a nineteenth-century town founder rising from the beyond to warn the main characters of their impending doom. They also suffer a bit from the "I've killed my leading lady repeatedly, now what do I do" syndrome typically only faced by soap opera writers, as well as from the problem of having to rehash old news for readers who have potentially jumped...more

I am a big LJS fan, love her other series "Dark Visions" and "The Forbidden Game," and hate giving "Vampire Diaries" such a low rating, but I have to be honest with myself - this series just wasn't good. It obviously lacked planning, it was not very well structured and at some point got just plain bizarre. In fact, I am not quite sure why LJS decided to continue on with this rather weak series 15 years later.

While I enjoyed "The Struggle" and "The Fury," the series went downhill in "Dark Reunion...more

I started reading the second bind-up of Vampire Diaries as soon as I finished the first one. I couldn't stop reading. Especially when The Struggle ends with Elena's death - theoretically. Because she actually transforms into a vampire. She was almost drown, and she kinda died, but she had enough of Stefan's blood in her veins to help her stay... un-dead. And.. whoa! She thinks Damon is her boyfriend. I still dunno why. Well, yeah, she finally remembered after about 4 chapters, but still... Anywa...more

I've been whatching the vampire diaries on tv and I thought it was great. It had action and romance in all the right places. So I was super excited to read the books. I usually read the book first before I whatch anything based off of it to see the differences. Im glad I didnt this time or I would have never EVER have seen the tv show. I dont even know why i gave this book 2 stars. It doesnt deserve it. AT ALL. Where do I begin? Alright the characters.

Elena- She is a selfish BITCH! all I hear fr...more

Volumes 3 and 4 definitely improve upon the previous volumes. The plot really got crackling, and I liked how the characters worked together to try to deal with their problems. Elena went in a direction I didn't expect. I liked the way her changes and problems were handled. Bonnie and Meredith really rose to the challenge. Bonnie remains my favourite character in the series, with her sense of humour and determination. I also liked the addition of Alaric. This series has much of what the Twilight...more

The only reason I chose to read this series was because the TV show was on hiatus.

In the 3rd book "The Fury", Elena died, came back as a vampire, and had all the narcissistic plots evolved around her... In the end, she died again. In the 4th book “The Dark Reunion”, the gang, sans Elena, battled the evil force. This time, the focus was on Stefan. The similar villainous plots ensued and the gang was losing to Klaus (the Original). Then, lo and behold, Elena the spirit materialized with the unqui...more

I’ve finally finished the original series of The Vampire Diaries and I can’t help but think why do most of the characters here in this series seem to be so judgemental towards Damon? They always blame him for everything, I know that he’s cold and everything but I think that he’s the kind of person who actually cares but he doesn’t let anyone see it. I really liked the part in the Dark Reunion where he helped Stefan when Stefan was about to be killed by Klaus.

“Stay away from my little brother.”

I came into this series have first watched the television series. While the storyline and character descriptions vary slightly, I am finding it thoroughly entertaining.

With that said The Fury and Dark Reunion are no exception. Fans of the television series should look at this origin material (and that in The Awakening and The Struggle) as another adventure or a parallel universe. The plot is meticulously unveiled for the reader and the writing style is so contemporary and refreshing that I find...more

I have too many other books lying around waiting to be read for me to waste anymore time right now on this one, seeing how it's not holding my interest at all.

I love, love,LOVE the show... so maybe that's why I'm having a bit of a hard time really feeling this one.

As always, TEAM DAMON!!!!

I grew up on LJ Smith and though this is a good series, she has better. In terms of general environment, the books are definitely spookier and more atmospheric than their TV counterpart. In terms of actual plot, I would honestly just recommend the TV show. I don't think I've EVER said that before in a review, but it is true in this case. Stefan and Elena (in the books) are a very boring couple. I was always disappointed that Elena did not end up with Damon in the books, who was always more intri...more

I don't know what I was exactly expecting of this book, but it was given to me free, along with the previous volume, so I thought I might as well try it out. My best guess is that this is a book that was written to appeal to teenage girls who have an idealised version of romance and don't care much about plot, characters, or writing: all the characters in the book are boring, the plots (and calling them that is a stretch) are poor, and the writing is simple and bland at best. The book was an eas...more

Not too impressed with the differences between the books and the tv show. To be honest, I was never an avid fan of the tv show and I realize that I feel the same about the books.
It is something to read and you get more detail, but o. The negative side... The books are very predictable.
Another small concern (a really trivial one at best) is the difference in hair colour. For someone who has not watched the tv show, this would not be any kind of issue, but I found myself mentally stuck for a sec...more

THE FURY

After her death Elena returns to the series, but this time as a vampire. Confused, but not alone with Stefan still be her side, Elena struggles to understand what tried to kill her. It becomes apparent that although Elena is a vampire due to the exchange of blood with both Damon and Stefan, it was not Stefan, the villain thus far, which tried to kill her at the end of the last book. Instead, it turns out that the brothers’ past comes back to haunt them and Elena must give the ultimate sa...more

It's books like these that lead me to believe vampire books are making a comeback. Yeah sure, there's obsession with Twilight, House of Night ... but this book is now one of my favorite vampire books of all time. Actually, my first impression of it was that it was just going to be another amateur vampire book, but it exceeded my expectations. I guess when I saw the title, I thought, Vampire Diaries? That sounds kind of lame. But it was the opposite. This book had what the first was lacking. The...more

The Fury and Dark Reunion by L.J. Smith

Third and fourth in The Vampire Diaries series

5 stars

Elena has changed and she’s no longer human. Stefan is tormented after losing Elena and determined to end the feud with Damon that’s been going on for centuries. Damon finally has claim over Elena. But enemies are popping up and will they be able to overcome their differences to defeat their enemy? The Fury and Dark Reunion are what I consider to be the strongest books in The Vampire Diaries series. There

This particular edition of The Vampire Diaries consists of the third and fourth books of the series (what many thought was the conclusion until the release of the fifth installment this year - more than 15 years later). The third and fourth books are entitled The Fury and Dark Reunion.

Honestly, I really like this series. It could have something to do with the fact that I'm a huge fan of vampire-lore, but there's also a great love storyline in the series, as well a friendship, family, etc. This...more

This is the second bind-up for THE VAMPIRE DIARIES. The Fury and The Reunion were originally published as two separate books; in fact, The Reunion was published some time after The Fury, which effectively closes the trilogy begun with The Awakening and The Struggle). In The Fury Elena, alongside her friends Bonnie and Meredith, struggles to control her nature and discover the source of the evil Power that is haunting Fell’s Church. She knows that the only way it can be defeated is if the two vam...more

I feel obligated to start by saying that The Fury and The Reunion are way better books than the first two novels in the series. More even, I actually enjoyed reading this novel, and could do so without wanting to kill everyone who came in the distance of a mile every time Elena spoke a sentence or thought something that enraged me. A great part of this has to do with the fact that the most annoying character of the series – who, unfortunately, appears to be the main character as well – is either...more

i decied to read this book because it is apart of a series i am reading and i thought i would be an interesting book to read.

the categorie the book fits into is a science fiction or fantasy book. this categotie was interesting because the books are made up and usually leave you either frightened or wanting more.

a quote i enjoyed in the book was "I never thought you were a liar. Just about everything else, but not that. I`ve never heard you try to cover up for yourself before". i liked this quote...more
