I'm a big fan of this series: brief monographs on some of the finest films made. Each book in the series is by a different author, so just as DVD spoken commentaries are variable in quality, so are the books. Rob White cuts between synopsis of The Third Man and enlightening background information.

Reading this through piqued my interest, and at last I found the DVD at the library. It was one of those cases where, all right, it was a good enough movie, but reading about it was the more gripping experience.

Interesting background reading after finishing the book by Graham Greene but before watching the film.
