Recommends it for:
people who watched "Where Are They Now" on VH1 or anyone who has nostalgia of the 70s
Originally titled WITHOUT MERCY, CURSE OF THE KISSING COUSINS is a good start to the series, even with some flaws. The main character/sleuth/nostalgic reporter, Tilda, is smart and likable, funny and realistic - basically, a solid lead (no pun intended, originally :P). The plot is interesting and for the most part, flowed smoothly; the same could be said about the additional characters. My favorites were fanboy Vincent and the kinda-sorta-cliche gay friend/co-worker, Cooper, who both added a lot...more
2008, #1 Tilda Harper, Cambridge Massachusetts; reporter/amateur sleuth.
Entertainment reporter Tilda Harper specializes in ‛Where Are They Now?' stories, and in her first case as a detective she roams through the by-ways and re-plays of a (fictional) hit family sitcom from the 1970s whose mostly-loved ex-cast members, according to an obsessed fan, are suddenly dropping like flies.

Although the core mystery left a bit to be desired, I enjoyed this book a lot. The dialogue is entertaining, and I grew to like many of the characters. There isn't much of a reason to even believe there IS a mystery, but that doesn't stop freelance magazine journalist Tilda Harper from investigating. It was enjoyable to watch her track down and interview a lot of people even though she doesn't really ever get anywhere. The majority of the book is spent with her following false leads and dead end...more
Despite a kind of creepy cover, this was a really fun book. The mystery aspect isn't really great, but the dialog and interaction of the characters is (the senior editors cursing at one another had me laughing out of control), and the background work is really amazing. It's the story of an entertainment reporter who does "Where Are They Now?" stories who's researching an old television sitcom that's something of a cross between "The Brady Bunch" and "The Addams Family." The cast is being killed...more
There was a lot of this book that I liked a lot, probably due to my higher than normal interest in old television shows and by-gone stars. Still, I didn't absolutely love this book and I'm not sure why. I liked Tilda just fine but there was something that kept me from raving about the book.
I plan on reading the next in the series, just to see if I like it more. I hate when I can't put a finger on why I didn't love a book.

this is is labelled as a "where are They Now" mystery, so I hope it is the beginning of a new series. I really liked the main character, a freelance writer who specializes in, well, "where are they now" articles, focusing on stars of old TV series, etc. She was a passionate fan of "Kissing Cousins", a now defunct Tv sereis that seemed to combine elements of the Addams Family and the Brady Bunch. Mercy was her favorite character and the only one she wasn't able to track down for a rcent piece. No...more
