So friends. Do you think you’re a dog lover? Like, a seriously intense, no-holds-barred dog lover? Is Marley and Me your personal Bible? Can you recount endless anecdotes about the exploits of your beloved pet? Do you visit the grave of your deceased Man’s Best Friend, or keep an urn of their ashes by your bedside table, or snuggle next to their stuffed remains which you have paid to be taxidermied into a lifelike reclining position so that they can Always Be With You?

Letters from a Hollywood producer to a dead celebrity dog. It is illuminating to read this so soon after The Year of Magical Thinking - the author is clearly in the early, delusional stages of grief so ably documented by Didion.
