I was entirely captivated by this book--it smuggled me in, get it? Seriously, I was in awe about how the "Snakehead" (term used for individuals who smuggled Chinese mainly into the US) Sister Ping created such a extensive, extremely lucrative system of smuggling. It was a wonder how she had so much time and reserves to have all these hideouts and schemes while running a successful business in Chinatown.

I ventured into the unknown with this non-fiction account of the big business of traffiking humans from Fujian Province of China to the U.S. Shocking and eye opening? Yes. Thought provoking? Fascinating account of human smuggling, specifically Chinese coming from Fujian province to U.S. The author conducted over 300 interviews with individuals involved at all levels of the smuggling trade. Raises provocative questions about the INS and its function. Very thought-provoking book and timely in light of recent US issues in terms of "illegal" immigration.

The details from Golden Venture case are so chilling, they read like fiction. This is an important and thrilling book about international human smuggling involving one area of China, but one that links the world together.
