Okay so heres the deal... i thought that the stories would be fun and really talk in depth about what the stories were about, it they did talk in depth but the problem was there was no dialogue in the stories, so I couldn't really understand which characters were talking. But thankfully, I read half of the stories that were in the books already, so I knew who was talking and when, but with the stories that I have never read before I was a little confused. But I liked all of the stories, and I th...more

I couldn't begin to guess when I first read Lambs Tales but two things brought them back to my attention, reading the fine essay about Charles Lamb in Anne Fadiman's At Large and At Small and finding it among the books of a new friend Farzaneh Doosti. One of the things Ms. Fadiman taught me was that the Lambs wrote together at a small table - he the tragedies, she the comedies - and they split the histories between them. This w...more

I have never read any of Shakespeare's plays, and after reading Teach Like Your Hair's on Fire, I got this to learn more about his plays. Rafe Esquith said in his book that you really can't get a feeling for the plays from just reading the plays and that this book is a good source for the stories that the plays tell. I will try it and see how long I can stick with it.

This book is a summary version of Shakespeare's 20 most well-known plays. I cannot found the deepness of emotion as we can read in the play itself, but this book gives you the whole story. I read one printed by Crest Publishing House, of course it is affordable, but many mispelled words existed, so, not a really nice copy.

there are some summerized stories of shakespear there... I read maybe 2,3 stories but they were all beautiful. I liked the Macbeth, Othello is also very nice. A little difficult for me to understand all the sentences. It has some difficult words there u have to have a dictionary beside u!

This is the most basic break down I have ever read of Shakespeare's work- it's great to familiarize yourself with a particular piece before reading and dissecting the original version. I also highly recommend as a way for younger readers to get a feel for the bard.

These stories are a perfect way to introduce children to Shakespeare’s plays. I loved this book when I was 10, and I’m convinced it’s one of the main reasons I was a Shakespeare fanatic well before I entered high school.

So helpful. I fell in love with (and memorized) Shakespeare's stories before I could fully understand his language. I credit this book as one of the reasons people tell me that I'm the best Shakespeare storyteller ever.

This is a wonderful little book. The language of 19th century England is so beautiful. This book contains brief synopses of all of Shakespeare's major plays, written in Elizabethan English. Gorgeous!

I'm reading this to the kids to familiarize them with the plays of Shakespeare. We read one every couple of weeks.

I think the Lambs' Shakespeare tales are the BEST of the bunch.
