I just finished ‘Faithless’ by Karin Slaughter tonight, and I don’t really have a strong feeling of good or bad. There are some good things about this novel and then there are some things that were bad. But funnily enough, this is the first woman writer that I’ve read. I posted about this a while back, and I have to say, contrary to popular belief, the gender of the writer doesn’t stand out much.

Medical examiner Sara Linton has had an uneasy relationship with her ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey Tolliver, for years. In spite of their differences, Sara and Jeffrey have never stopped loving one another. Now, the two are taking tentative steps towards a reconciliation, but obstacles still remain. Lena Adams is a detective who works under Jeffrey's supervision, and she is one messed up woman. Although Lena is a good cop, much to her secret shame, she is also a human punching bag for her abu

Despite the fact this book is over 500 pages long, I managed to finish it in a single day. There is so much depth in this book, not just in the plot, but in the characters’ lives as well. I like that Karin Slaughter took this beyond the typical “religious cult gone wrong” type of story, which I had been expecting. Instead, she weaved a story that was both surprising and complex. This book could have fallen flat, but it did not. Far from it.

Picked up this book at a whim merely because we'd gone to the beach but the water was too cold for swimming and my Mom had just finished reading it so it was in the tote we take to the beach. Despite my mom's recent passion for sappy romances, there are only a couple scenes of romance between Jeff and Sara in the book.

I liked this book, but more for the Lena / Terri story line than anything else. I found the whole farm / church / cult thing a tired story line. About the only interesting aspect of this was learning that the man that started this was the one that Cathy had the affair with that almost ended her and Eddie's marriage. I also am tired of Sara and Jeffery going back and forth. It is time to fish or cut bait. And Tessa doing a 180 and going for the Pastor at the church, so not believeable. I re

I am enjoying these more as I revisit the characters. So much of the seamier side of life and always the question if the authors give new ideas to crummy people. Truly some of the ways of cruelty have simply never entered my mind and the capacity to come up with these methods is just scary at times! but, Sara and Jeff, and Lena become more compelling folks.

Dr. Sara Linton and Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver are carrying a lot of emotional baggage. These ex-spouses work together in solving crimes--mostly gory, brutal, unspeakable crimes. The latest is a young girl found buried, presumably, alive. There's a pipe protruding from her burial place which should have provided air, but an autopsy reveals that the young girl who happens to be a member of a religious cult did not suffocate but was killed by cyanide, which was poured down the breathing tube.

The 5th book in Slaughter's Grant County series and I can say that I enjoyed this one quite a bit. Probably because this story isn't filled with wasted page upon page of the main characters, Sara and Jeffrey, bickering unnecessarily about how screwed up their relationship is (although the beginning does have a medical scare that Jeffrey brings up having to do with the affair he had 5 years previously, causing me to say "here we go again", but it turns out to be a minor part of the sto

On one level this is a fairly ordinary potboiler fill in the numbers story of a female coroner and yet another grisly set of murders. This time it is religious sect check, rednecks check, young woman killed in a horrible way check, conflicted heroine and hero who ought to be together check and evil plot check. When the author starts tackling the issue of domestic violence however the writing reaches whole new levels of to use a cliche searing intensity and elevates the overall book. I am bemused

When Cindy finished Broken Road, we looked online for a potential agent. I came across Slaughter's agent. Cindy was also writing the sequel, Full Circle, so it seemed a two-for; I'd read one of this agent's authors, and at the same time, I'd get to see how a good author includes back story in a sequel. Enough of the first story has to be included for the second to make sense, yet the reader who has actually read the first book doesn't want to be bogged down in story he or she already knows, rig

Number five in the Grant County series by Karin Slaughter. This one has another thrilling story line. A girl buried alive in the woods, a religious cult, weird wacky characters, more secrets revealed by the main characters, and more problems for Lena. And even more important, less of the Jeffrey/Sara soap opera. I really like this series for the wonderful story lines that the author includes. They have twists and turns, some endearing characters, some that you love to hate, the villains are

Slaughter has a knack for coming up with weird cases, this time its girls being buried alive for punishment. Jeffrey and Sara discover a coffin in the woods with a dead girl inside. The coffin had a breathing pipe to keep the girl alive but they soon find out that she was poisoned.

Faithless is the fifth book in the Grant County series by Karin Slaughter. And in every book, Slaughter has hooked me at page one. At the conclusion of the novel, I'm not ready to be done. To me, this is evidence of a truly great suspense novel.
Jeffrey and Sara literally stumble across a strange protrusion in the ground at the onset of this novel. That protrusion is some kind of pipe. What they find at the other end of that pipe is a box containing the murdered body of a young w More...

(re-read 11/09: not my favorite. sara and jefferey seem to hate each other too much but still stay - and i wonder why. again, the parallels between sara and jeff's relationship versus lena and ethan's seems to be a question of degree - and emotional versus physical abuse. i definitely loved the stuff between lena and terri, and the things that lena had to deal with because of that. the mystery itself was fairly predictable and easily guessed, but again, her strong point is her characters and get

Another great read by Karin Slaughter. This book had a balanced focus on both Lena and Jeffery & Sara. I am starting to like Lena again after being totally irritated with her for several books. The mix of religion into this murder of a girl buried in a box in the woods was handled deftly and didn't make the religious family out to be kooks. There are bad evil believers and non-believers. I think the women in this book come out looking the strongest of any of Karin's books. Good read.

I began reading these books out of order because I didn't realize it was a series at the time, and now it's killing me because I've spoiled it for myself, knowing what is going to happen to one of my favorite characters in these stories, and now I'm dreading reading the next installment in the Grant County series. I like these stories even though they are a bit gritty, but it is the characters/story people who I enjoy following. I'll continue to read along, even though I know what's coming....

Where do I start? Faithless Is a book for people who likes to go down under not giving up on their gut feeling. Although, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I was to read this book. It gives you so many surprises when you least expect. Sometimes, you might think this person was the killer than another person is a little suspect to you. Eventually, Close to the end everything comes together and it will most definitely blow you away.

I love all of Karin Slaughter's books, the first one I read was skin privilege not knowing it was the last in a series at that time, it was so different to anything I had read before then and it was Karin Slaughter's books that got me into reading a few years ago. Fascinating crime mixed with pathology. Heart rendering stories. Would love to see these made for the big screen, but no books of the same genre can beat Karin Slaughter. Definitely a must read... over and over again.

It will test their relationship and bring dozens of lives into contact with them. This is my first Karin Slaughter book that I've read and I loved it. I give it an A+!

After close to 2 chapters i surrender. Nothing interest me to go on. Perhaps I should be fair to the writer and keep on trying but I need to be fair to my time and choose to abandon it for something else.
I am not a big fan of coincidence so to have the couple suddenly stumble into a graveyard already put me off.
I am sure this is a good writing but for me, white flag.

Have read Trip Tych and Blindsighted by this author and am hoping I will enjoy this book also. I have finished this book and had a hard time putting it down once I started. It grabbed me from the first page and kept my interest the whole way through. I had read Blindsighted the first book in the series and knew the characters, but liked this book much better. It was a little better than a 4 star but not quite as good as a 5 star--but almost!

Another great book by Slaughter. I think she is quickly becomming on my favorite murder/mystery authors; she is able to keep you guessing about the bad guy until the very end. Loved reading more about Sara and Jeffrey, although sometimes the sheer number of spats they have is enough to make you roll your eyes. For two people in love, they sure know how to hate each other.

My first novel in this very popular series. I thought it would be somewhat like the Kay Scarpetta Series(Patricia Cornwell), but this was not the case. Slaughter's novels are set in rural Georgia, and do not have the 'Big City/War On Terror' feel of Cornwell's novels. I enjoyed it a lot, and plan to read more by this author.

first by this author that I've read. I got the feeling that she had too many characters whose lives all intertwined to follow easily. I see now that this is the 5th in a series, so maybe if I'd read the other ones, it might not have been so complicated for me. I'd be willing to read another one by this author.
