Lots of twist and turns in Bone Volume 6. One twisty revelation made me laugh out loud and one was gruesome. I enjoyed the drawings in the first dozen pages of this addition. There were several close-ups of human faces, which I don't remember seeing before in this series. The artist said so much in the worried expressions and tired, care-worn faces. I also liked the two page spread that was part landscape and part action with the dialogue happening across the bottom of the page as the rat creatu ...more

Old Man's Cave the sixth Bone book by Jeff Smith started off with a bang. Thorn finds Fone and Smiley and with Ted's help leads them to the Old Man's Cave. They meet up with Phoney and Grandma but Rock Jaw needs Phoney to see something at a mountain. The Locust attacks and it becomes clear just how dangerous the Hooded One is.

With all this action going on I realized I had missed something. I was sitting her looking at a giant talking mountain lion wondering why I had forgotten about him. I had t

This is the sixth book in the Bone series by Jeff Smith. We all read it independently and I'm so glad that our girls like the story. The story is fun, exciting, and full of drama and intrigue. We are all hooked!

My husband enjoyed collecting comic books when we were a lot younger and when I would accompany him on his trips to the comic book store, I would often pick up an issue of Bone. I thought the story was very engaging and dramatic and I loved the little guy.

Now that our girls are older and

This is not my type of book, my 12 year-old loves them (not much text reading) but I just can't get into the comic type of writing it's too distracting. It's hard for me to rate the text separate from the illustrations in this series because I think they go hand in hand. I don't understand the combination of cartoons with anime these are two different types of illustrations and I can't wrap my mind around combining the two. As for the illustrations as a stand alone they are great but the overall ...more

This is the sixth book in the bone series. The war is getting worse each sides are getting ready to fight. If the rat creatures win then the locust will get his full power they need to win the battle. I would recommend this book to people who like fantasy. But you would have to red the other books first

This book is Bone old man’s cave and this is also one of my favorite series. I always love reading the series and can’t stop reading it. When I’m done with it I just start all over in book 1. Also forgot to mention that this is book 6. Bone is about this 3 little creatures that was lost in a desert. In the Bone first book you will learn about the character. Okay old man’s cave is about a war and it’s spreading larger. Bone, his friends and the villagers found a base camp which was the cave. Do y ...more

old mans cave is a funny and exciting book. It has a unnecessary gory sen but apart from that it will be a good book to have on your bookshelf.

Bone: Old Man’s Cave is the sixth of the Bone series. These graphic novels tell the story of three bones, who wander into a valley and they learn that conflict is about to erupt, and Phoney is going to be in the center of it. As the villagers of Barrelhaven flee to Old Man’s cave, the fortress of the Veni-Yan warriors, Fone Bone and Smiley find themselves surrounded by rat creatures bent on killing them. Thorn arrives just in time to save the day. Thorn, Fone Bone, and Smiley find a hollowed-out ...more

I finished reading another Bone book by Jeff Smith. In my opinion this was a very good book in the Bone series, in fact it is my favorite Bone book so far. The reason why I liked this book so much is because, I found the setting of the book to be very detailed and the setting and theme of this book is a little darker than the ones that I previously read. The feel of this book kept me reading because this Bone book was more serious than the others that I read, and I was more into it because of th ...more

The book Old Mans Cave is about three creatures trying to stay alive in an evil filled world. An evil wizard named the hooded one is terrorizing all the cities that humans live in. Fone and Fonny Bone meet up with a run away princess. They make there way to the Old Mans Cave which is a stronghold to the humans. A woman guards old stories written by dragons a very long time ago. The stronghold gets attacked and overrun by the rat creatures. Fone Bone saves the day by killing their leader the hoo ...more

I obviously came in during the middle of the story, and I have no idea what kind of creature Bone is or what sort of world he inhabits, but I liked the story just the same. Graphic Novels are not my favorite kind of format. I usually like them when I read them, but they require a different kind of reading than plain text, so for me they are actually more work and I have to pay more attention. But this particular story was heavy on the fantasy, there was action and giant tigers, sibling rivalry, ...more

War has come to the valley. Smiley and Fone Bone are still lost in the forest. Gran'ma Ben has joined with the Veni Yan warriors and is at the Old Man's Cave with other survivors from the valley. The rat creatures are still looking for Phoney Bone, "The one who bears the star" and some of the villagers are more than ready to hand him over. But even with all the trouble he's caused, Thorn doesn't let any harm come to him. Thorn eventually goes off on her and before joining with the others at Old ...more

This book talks about Fone Bone and the team escaping from the evil rat creatures and Briar (who is actually the hooded one). But time is almost up, the harvest moon is rising up at midnight and Briar will do anything to get Thorn and Phoney Bone, and that means getting Roque Ja, the mountain lion to hunt them down. Meanwhile Fone Bone and the others are also preparing to leave to the City of Atheia but these stick eaters randomly came and asked Thorn to follow them. How will they be able to get ...more

Jeff Smith's wonderful "Bone" series continues with this, the sixth of nine volumes (completing the second of three trilogies). "Old Man's Cave" continues the trend of previous installments, which have slowly grown less humorous and more grim.
Yet through the increasingly dark tone of the "Bone" saga, Smith manages to keep things friendly for all ages, a truly commendable task in this era of R rated comics.

"Bone" is an expansive story about three "bone creatures" (you'd have to see them to unders

This book was interesting but not my favorite. It is an important part of the series.

In the beginning they are starting to walk back to the village after dropping Bartleby off at his tribe. They run into a gofer and they find out from him that the hooded one is looking for them. Meanwhile, Thorn and Phoney Bone are rescuing farmers from the ghost circle, but the farmers are mad a Phoney Bone for making them think the dragon was real and causing all the chaos. Thorn does not let the farmers hurt

Why I Read It: Next in a series.

In this volume, we finally, FINALLY, figure out why the Hooded One wants to find Phoney Bone. I rejoiced because question has been bugging me for the ENTIRE series thus far. Seriously, what could he want with that stupid guy? But the answer I was given kind of... confused me. At first I thought: "Wait, wut?" Then I thought it was all kind of funny. Then it felt sort of anti-climatic, but still mostly funny. Then I got over it and thought i

This is the sixth book in the wonderful nine book Bone series by Jeff Smith. I have been loving this series and this was a wonderful continuation of it. Gma Ben and Thorn (along with all of our favorites) are back and events are clipping along at a fast pace.

The book starts out with Gma Ben and Lucius at Old Man's Cave, where the village has taken shelter. Fone Bone and Smiley Bone are still lost in the woods trying to make their way to the burning village. Seemingly random events from previous

Reason for Reading: next in the series

We are right in the middle of all the action with this volume. The battle has started and everyone steps up to the plate and shows their mettle. Fone and Smiley are still lost in the woods from the previous book until they meet up with Thorn and continue the journey with her. Gran'ma Ben has called everyone together at Old Man's Cave where they can put up a united stand against the rat creatures under the leadership of the Hooded One, whose identity we learn

Jeff Smith's "Bone" is a fantastic graphic novel series for older elementary aged children. I read the 6th book of the "Bone" series and was very pleased with the story. The book has a great message of the importance of family. The pictures throughout tell the story and give greater meaning to the narration. Without reading the others I was unable to follow the references to sub plots, but I can tell there is detailed character development. This would be a good book that kids would want to follo ...more

Another great read. All of the little parts are starting to click together slowly but clicking. It is great learning my guess on who the hooded one was right and I knew that person would be making a comeback in a bad why when I saw the choice that got made in an earlier book. I hope that what I think I read and saw is at the end of this one is different then what it actually is but only more book reading will tell.

The first time I'd heard about the Bone cousins was in the back pages of Dave Sim's Cerebus. There was a short preview and it immediately drew me in. The art was simple yet clean, it reminded me alot of Walt Kelley's Pogo, and the story content actually got a chuckle.
At that time, Bone was just starting out and had maybe 4 issues of the regular comic printed out on the market. I chased them down and read them in a single sitting... I was hooked!
I've read all the Bone monthlies and later bought t
