Finally a historical crime novel that I really enjoyed reading! This author [unlike the authors I've been trying out:] actually writes English competently!

I will look for more of her books [this is her 6th one; she's been publishing one a year:]. The two sleuths are Brits who speak excellent French, and the asides on French language and customs are entertaining and perhaps educational [tho I can't judge that:].

Learned something about WW I from a humanitarian point of view too. It ...more

This is my first Joe Sandilands murder mystery and I really enjoyed it. Characters are well developed and the plot has interesting twists and turns. I actually did not get the ending at first and only understood it after a nap because it was based on a pretty small clue much earlier in the book.

This one was so tough to rate. I love Joe, but I love him less outside of India. While I enjoyed the mystery, I found the precocious Dorcas irritating. I see that Joe is heading to Paris for his next caper, but I wish he'd board a ship and steam back to India! He truly shines as the even-tempered, gentleman in such an exotic environment.

This was a nice, frothy, historical mystery set in Champagne right after WWI. I can see this as a movie on PBS.

Sixth book in Joe Sandilands series. Sandilands is WWI vet and British cop. This book is set in post-WWI France.

Post-WWI detective story. Cute, good twists. But not as good as the Regeneration trilogy...
