This is a worthy companion to the classic dungeon crawl of the same name. For many of us who grew up in the eighties, WPM deferred only to Tomb of Horrors as a classic meat-grinder of a dungeon, designed with that typical Gygaxian illogic which meant there was no particular rhyme or reason to how the challenges fit together. But woe betide the party of adventurers who paused to question the coherence of the dungeon with silly concerns like "how do these monsters eat?" That way lay certain death....more
This was a surprisingly fun book. It's certainly not your standard party make-up, and I think that's what makes it so enjoyable. It is a strange cast of characters like a real D&D party often is, and they come up with creative and unexpected solutions to the problems they face.
My one big complaint with the book was that the beginning drags. The setup and background to the story is tedious, and the characters and action don't really shine until they get to the dungeon itself which happens we...more

This is a really fun book with a great cast of characters. I really like the interactions between the Justicar and the pixie (who's name I forgit. It's been a few years since I've read this.) With a good mix of action and humor the author manages to make the adventure the book is based upon into a fantastic story. I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of fantasy fiction.
I am a huge fan of the original module. I just love it and have very fond memories of running it with a very engaged group of players. In that regard, this book works well. It captures the flow and feel of the dungeon, and the set up is plausible. Like many of the books in this series, they suffer from the impatience of the reader for the writer to just get to the dungeon they remember so fondly.

Doing a major re-read of the 3 books.
Probably some of my favourite all time confort reads, which i hadn't read in the longest time because i was half afraid they perished during a fire that happened 3 years ago.
well they didn't die, and here i am reading them again.
oh do i miss playing
and it might be an influence of all the romance i read currently but i did notice a lot more gushy stuff than i remembered (not a bad thing mind you)

This trilogy is one of my favorite Greyhawk series of all time. I love the interaction between Jus and Escalla, and the books never fail to make me laugh.
I'm a true gaming geek - Starting clear back with 1st Edition, all the way thru 3.5 and I've read alot of the Greyhawk, the Forgotten Realms, even the Dragonlance. These are my favorites.
