I just read this for my neighborhood book club. I read it while hanging out by a lake as my three year old swam with his father. It was perfectly fine for that. It has a compelling story, but lakes character development.

A favorite from my mexican obsession category. A tale of a mother and her missing daughter, involving prostitution, mexico, saints and visions, and somehow--hysterical and sad all at the same time. an awesome read.

this book is deep it shows us what mothers will do for their children, but also shows you the strength of beliefs in saints or anything for that matter.......a lot of symbolism within the story.

A book I found in the $1 section of the University Bookstore. Surprisingly wonderful. Rather lighthearted. Similar in tone to other Mexican magical realism e.g. Like Water for Chocolate.

Magical realism at it's finest. She intertwines religion, sex, life, and death in this novel. I loved it!
