An early reader with a message about sibling cooperation, Emma's Strange Pet will appeal to a wide audience: boys and girls, pet lovers, those with allergies, and those who have been adopted. I didn't realize this book is part of series until after I read the reviews; readers will appreciate being able to follow these characters through a variety of adventures

CIP Summary:
Emma is allergic to animals with fur, but because she and her adopted brother really want a pet they decide to try a lizard.

When Emma gets a new pet, her brother Max gets jealous. I love this book for many reasons;taking on a pet is a big responsibility and this book shows some of the steps in being responsible. It also shows patience from Max and a change in thought from the dad, which can show children that if they are responsible and patient, they may get their way with mom and dad. They book could also appeal to anyone with pet allergies. Book is smaller and more for single readers instead of read-aloud.

This is a fun story about a family who gets a "strange" pet when their little girl has allergies that prevent them from getting a "normal", hairy pet. It has an underlying story about adoption that ties the story together at the end, but is a little too subtle and I think it would be confusing for some kids. Overall, it's a good story and our girls liked it.

Another well told story by Jean Little!

Here we continue the theme of adoption with bringing home a new pet - and not your usual pet at that!

I liked how she tied this in with Max's adoption and how he's adjusting to his new family. Again, this story is a lot deeper than I expected, and enjoyable on many levels. I would highly recommend this one as well!

Emma is allergic to animal for but her little brother Max wants a pet and Emma wants one too. For her birthday, Emma gets an anole, a small lizard that can Change colons. Even though its a strange pet, not at all like a dog or a cat, both Emma and Max happily welcome the little lizard to their home. Jennifer Plecas' illustrations are bright and colorful. These line and color illustrations vividly capture the characters’ emotions and show the interactions between the two siblings. This book was r...more
