Eloisa James (Goodreads Author),
Rebecca Hagan Lee, Julia London (Goodreads Author), Jacqueline Navin
Nothing sets tongues wagging like a scandalous dalliance.
In the salons of the ton, no tidbit is more delicious than a rumor of amour--the more outrageous the better. Rakes and rogues, ladies of high station and low morals are choice fodder for the gossips of society. This was an Anthology with four stories\novella's all revolving around scandal in some form usually something that happened in the past that is for some reason revisited in the present (the present being the Regency Era).

I'll be honest and say I only picked up this book because of Eloisa James. While the big name stories were somewhat fun to read the third story caused me almost physical pain while reading it, hence the terrible rating.
Eloisa James used the old betrothed from childhood tale, I enjoyed the flirtation between the couple but had to skip all and any mentions of their more amorous events.

Always tricky to rate an antho. In this case: interesting tie-together concept (how gossip can shape relationships), wide variety in how much results appealed to this reader.
Eloisa James story: charming and skillfully written, would make me buy a full length novel if I wasn't already convinced of this author's style
= 5 Stars
Julia London: pleasant story, convincingly told, would interest me in a full length novel by this new-to-me author
= 4 stars

Damn it. I've read this book before. They changed the cover on me and I forgot. What a waste of my Booksfree order. Actually, it could have been worse. At least this collection of stories is fairly good. The first is by Eloisa James who can usually be counted on to spin a good yarn. This time, it's about a childhood betrothal that has never been fulfilled. The Earl of Kerr is too busy running around with french women to to actually go through with his wedding. So, Miss Emma Loudan disguises hers...more
Eloisa James- Proper Engishwoman.
Julia London - The Vicar's Widow - Shows how gossip can travel and expand into something hurtful.
Rebecca Hagan Lee - Clearly a Couple. India was held captive in a harem for long 5 years. She was determined to survive as her governess demanded of her before she was killed. Jonathan was sent to Plum Cottage to pick up a "parcel". He found the parcel to be a woman dressed in harem clothing, a beautiful woman.

I might have given this book 4 stars, because I really enjoyed 3 of the 4 stories, but the 3rd story was just awful. To be completely honest it was so bad I couldn't even get through the 100 or so pages that it was.
The first story was of a couple who had been betrothed as children and the guy doesn't want to marry her so he keeps waiting and waiting in hopes she calls it off. She then finds out about some of his exploits about town and decides to get her revenge on him.

I can literally rank these titles in the order of the author list; the Eloisa James novella is definitely the best one in this. I like these anthologies, especially as no one is publishing straight Regencies any more.
This is an anthology which I bought because Eloisa James is the lead author and her story is probably my favorite of the four, but I enjoyed all the stories and look forward to reading more by all the authors. I don't remember reading anything by the other authors so I am happy to have had a chance to try them out here.
I only read the Rebecca Hagan Lee story because I needed to finish up the Free Fellows League. I liked this final installment of the League, the story line was unique with the rescue from the sultan and return to London. It was a whirlwind courtship and I fun, fast read.
I haven't decided if I am going to read the other stories in the book before I return it to the library or not.

I liked each of these 4 stories. But with anthologies, they are so short I didn't feel I ever really became emotionally connected with any of the characters. They were just 4 sweet stories. I especially liked the last one, Miss Jenny Alt's First Kiss, by Jacqueline Navin. I had not heard of her before, but I will be looking for other works by her.
Worth the read for some light romance.

I only read Eloisa James' short story in this book and I A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y love it!! So, this 5 stars goes solely to Eloisa James only.
Loved the length of the stories because they weren't too drawn out. I enjoyed the first story the most and the second the least.
A nice collection of novellas by some wonderful romance novelists. I particularly enjoyed the 3rd story.
Another fun anthology!! I didn't love any of these novellas but they were all fun love stories.
Typical anthology with a strong story, a weak story, a stupid story and a surprising story.
My first taste of Eloisa James writing, which led me to seek out more of her work.
four novels in one. Fed the fix for regency romance but not the most entertaining.
Not a good anthology. I didn't care for any of the stories
A cute collection of short stories by some authors we know and love! I found Jacqueline Navin's short story to be the best, it brings a whole new meaning to saving the best for last! It was a really sweet and predictable story but it was hard not to like it! Eloisa James also wrote a great story-I love a disguise plot!
Four regency romances that involve gossip, written by four separate authors. I enjoyed all four stories. Each plot was unique, but they each had a handsome hero and a spunky heroine. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
The first two stories were entertaining but the writing style of the third story was confusing and the fourth one was not hard to start.
Only read the Eloisa James novella, which was horribly average.
I enjoyed 3 of the 4 stories (didn't finish Hagan Lee's)
The rating is for Eloisa James' story only.

New York Times bestselling author Eloisa James writes historical romances for HarperCollins Publishers. Her novels have been published to great acclaim. A reviewer from USA Today wrote of Eloisa's very first book that she "found herself devouring the book like a dieter with a Hershey bar"; later People Magazine raved that "romance writing does not get much better than this."
