This was an interesting story, quite entertaining. I quickly got to the point where I couldn't put it down very easily (an unfortunate detriment to my housework...). But there was a lot of bad language in it, and I didn't like that. It was shorter than her first two books, but, of course, similar because it had the same main character, Kinsey Millhone. Sue Grafton is good at writing edge-of-your seat, thrilling endings, and that is what made me want to read the next ones after reading A is for Alibi ...more

"C is for Corpse" is the third book in the series, in which Kinsey is hired by a man she meets at the local gym, who had been run off the road several months prior and who now believes it was an attempt on his life. The problem is, he has suffered from memory loss and has no idea who may be after him or why he was in danger. While this mystery was much more interesting and intriguing for me than I found the first two, I enjoyed the second storyline in this installment even more; Kinsey...more

Grafton's books sort of draw you back. Slowly you get a glimpse of Kinsey's personality. You know a lot about what's happening and going to happen, so it doesn't really feel like a mystery.

In this story, a young man hires Kinsey to investigate an attempted murder. He was run off the road, his best friend died and he was severely injured. His memory has holes in it, but he knows it wasn't just an accident. Kinsey tells us right away that the young man dies. She continues to investigat...more

Although I normally start a series with the first book, I began here with the letter C.

Private detective Kinsey Millhone is called to help a young man who just barely survived a car crash some months ago. Unfortunately he lost his memory in this crash and does neither know what dangerous information he had nor who might wanted him to 'forget' this info.

The culprit and the hiding place of an old murder weapon were both surprises for me, and that's why this is a good murder mystery for me....more

Ahhh... I enjoyed this book better than "B" is for Burglar it seemed to have a rhythm more similar to the first book in this series. I'm interested to see how the main character's relationships continue to develop through the letters.
The only thing I'm not sure of in this story was the motive. The culprit was exactly who I imagined it would be while reading page 24 and a little light bulb popped up over my head with a small ding... but I do wish it was spelled out in the e...more

C is the best letter yet. The relationship with Bobby draws you in ... until he dies and she is left to solve what may be an accident. We meet more of Kinsey - a bigger picture of her life. Of course, she solves the case, but not before putting herself in mortal peril...

I though I had read these before, but I don't remember A, B, or C. Ready for the next letter -- Grafton has a way of making you not want to put the book down!

This was a good one. These books are fun, and easy to read. In this one, Kinsey takes on a client, 23-year-old Bobby Callahan, who thinks someone is trying to murder him. Unfortunately, early on (no spoiler), he is actually killed. Kinsey, who felt a connection with him, is compelled to see his case through.

There was no guessing the ending on this one. It keeps you interested until the final page.

My first Sue Grafton book and I have to say I was not overly impressed. I read it in about two days but it was a very typical mystery book - no major plot twists, not hard to figure out. I think I would have to give her another go before writing her off completely - her A,B,C, etc. books seem to be so popular. But if there are all like this one, I won't be a Sue Grafton follower.

A co-worker recommended these books to me, and I was skeptical at first. Alphabet murder mysteries? How corny is that? But give it a chance and Sue Grafton will change your mind. Her main character is stuck in the 80s, loves junk food and has horrible luck with men. They're really fun, I promise. And since she's up to S.... there are so many to read once you get started!

After a car accident Bobby Callahan suspects foul play. When he turns up dead, Kinsey Millhone is on the case

Pleasantly dated (great 80's moment - a man smoking inside a hospital right outside a patient room). The detailed character descriptions were too long but mostly I enjoyed it. I'm not in a hurry to read another, though.

Kinsey Millhone, as a cocky crass investigator, matures as a character in this mystery, in which she actually solves two murders. A bit of blackmail, drugs and fraud is thrown into the plot as well. Kinsey is not for everyone as she is definitely not a "gentle" character.

Actually, this was slightly predictable, and the way these have ended, so far (its only the third book, so I can't really say) is essentially the same. That being said, these are generally pretty entertaining.

I have read all of Sue Grafton books that are in the Kinsey Milhorn series. Very funny and it feels good to get to know the characters and read about them again and again in each new book.

I liked this one. The books are definately get better with every letter. Even more important is learning about Kinsey. I really think that's my favorite part of the whole series.

A nice and easy detective mystery great for passing time. I am very fond of this entire series of books. They certainly aren't a literary marvel but they are fun and light.

Good, standard mystery novel. Very much like the other alphabet ones, they're fun and interesting, if you need a good mystery to break up other reading material.
