Recommends it for: those who like art from the Impressionist period &/or are interested in art & French history
This is a superb book and it’s the exhibition catalog for a really wonderful exhibition.

With all the paintings they had to choose from, it escapes me why they chose the painting they did for this book’s cover. It’s one of the paintings I don’t particularly like.

The collection of artwork is terrific. The history given, French and art history, is informative and very interesting.

This book was a great investment. Helps me remember the paintings, has all the notes that are posted on the little card next to the painting, and contains an overview of art history and political happenings during the emerging Impressionist movement. I have vol 2 and will read it as soon as I get a ticket to the companion exhibit. This is one of the only nonfiction books I read all year. It was good for me.
