No James Paterson fan here. This was the first (and last) book I read by this author. I was just coming off of reading everything I could get my hands on by Steven King. When he started writing out of his normal genre, I decided to make the switch to Paterson. In my entire life, I have never thrown a book in the trash. This was one of the most frustrating books I have ever read. The story was fantastic. Alex Cross is one of my favorite characters and the villains were fascinating. But there is one chapter where on of the villains does something vile and disgusting, that was so unnecessary, that I cannot recommend this to anyone. It makes me quite sad actually, because it was a great book (a 4 star actually), BUT the one chapter ruined it. I do hope that the next one, Jack and Jill, is better.

Okay, I am reading pulp fiction. Many people from my classes have recommended his novels and I thought I would see what all the hype is about. So far it is not well-written, but I am entertained. I liked the movie, although I think Ashley Judd is annoyingly condescending.

Note: The "old-thrills" shelf refers to thrillers I read and enjoyed in the early years of high school that I would probably be disappointed or bored with if I read now.

Chapter 1
For an beach/airplane thriller, it is great. It would be almost perfect if you take out the ridiculous sex torture scene with the snake. Seriously James what the hell was that!?!
Chapter 2
This is the best book of the series. (Jack and Jill being the worst and the rest merely serviceable.) Alex Cross is a great character that has great taste in books; I doubt he would be caught reading a book by James Patterson.

This is the second outing for Alex Cross.
This found Alex on the hunt for 2 ruthless killers of young beautiful, intelligent women: The Gentleman Caller and Casanova. Are they the same person although they're striking in different areas and have different styles? When Alex's niece, Naomi, is taken Alex treats this case as very personal and it leads him on an eventful chase with partner Sampson.

Good luck trying to put this one down after starting it. From start to finish this book will have you sweating with anticipation of whats to come. James Patterson does a great job of putting realistic characters in believable situations that will have you on the edge of your seat i guess you could say.

I have read all Patterson's Alex Cross books pretty much in order, and I am a huge fan. His style is easy to read, his mysteries complicated enough you don't figure out who did it too soon (if at all), and his characters are accessible.

James Patterson is my new addiction. His novels are suspensful, thrilling, and brilliant. This is the second book in his Alex Cross series. I started with this one, then read the first (Along Came A Spider) and continued from there. I am currently reading book 6- Roses Are Red, and, since I take two days out of every week to read each book, I should be finished with the series in no time. This is genuinely the worst book I have ever finished.
To be fair, it is tolerable when there is action, which is often. But every time James Patterson tries to put words coming out of a characters mouth, it makes you want to punch yourself in the face. When he writes descriptive, emotional paragraphs, it makes you want to punch him in the face.
I actually dog-eared a couple pages because the writing was so bad, I wanted to be able to quick reference it to people to show them how bad it was.

Along Came a Spider was good, but Kiss the Girls was better.

Hated it....freaked the crap out of me. I couldn't sleep for a week. The worst part was that once I started into it...I had to finish so that the bad guy could be defeated in my mind.

I read this when I was a freshman in high school, before I could smell crappy books from across the room. Patterson basically pulls you through a series of really graphic and horrible sex crimes and then calls it a day. fast read, as all patterson's are.
however, this is his best one, i think. alex is still new here, but he's familiar at the same time (no matter if you've read the books in order or not) and the racial overtones aren't as obnoxious as in along came a spider. the twists are clever, there really isn't a cheesy romantic plot to take away from anything, and there's this real appreciation of best friend/man love that just made me smi...more
