Be prepared for ranting and some spoilers here people...
Ok im about 4 chapters in and i already think the book is getting on my nerves, and by 'the book' i really mean Elena, bloody hell she is irritating, and i looked in the back of the book to see how it ended(i know u shouldnt but its something i just had to do for this one) and the ending from what i could tell was that Elena has chosen Stefen. Which wouldn't be so bad as i am a Damon and Bonnie fan anyway, but now Bonnie is going out with t...more

The Vampire Diaries: Moonsong is the ninth book in the Vampire Diaries series, as well as the second book in The Hunters, as well as the second book to be written by a ghostwriter, since L.J. Smith was fired by Alloy Entertainment.
Life is better than ever, Elena and her friends can't wait to attend Dalcrest College. But when students start to disappear from campus, suddenly every new acquaintance is a potential enemy. Then Elena uncovers a long-hidden secret, one that shocks her to the core, she...more

I just finish reading this book and i say i like it. I do think tho that there shouldnt be more books after the next one because it needs closure. What i also missed from this book is more action. Most of the time it was about relationships and stuff. But thats not bad either.
At one point i really saw elana and damon getting together and i like the two of them togheter. What i also liked about this book is a different kind of damon who cares and loves but at the same moment he is the elagant sex...more

Oh my GOD, this cover is hideous. How does anyone think that would make the book sell? For one, the guy is hideous, and for two, the way they put that shade of red in the background makes him look devoid of all natural skin-tone-ness. In fact, he looks unnaturally pale, like he's been dead for five days and someone just propped his eyes open for this shot.
One way or another, since LJ isn't writing this, I'm not reading it/buying it/donating to its cause.

This series is just like a family. It drives me crazy, it annoys me, I see all its faults, and I still LOVE it. I could write either a mean review of Moonsong, or go all fangirlish. Or I can do both.
Read full review on my blog, Beyond Strange New Words.

The Vampire Diaries are a series of novels (1-10) written by L.J.Smith. Can I first point out that the TV show is BASED on the novels, not the other way around. I picked up the first and second book in early December 2011 and was hooked by the end of it. I loved the plot, the characters and even the damn setting was amazing and made the novel much more effective. I was literally screaming at the end of the second novel.
With that being said, I bought the third, fourth and fifth books a couple of...more

there is so many secrets being unraveled. i almost feel sorry for elena because where ever she goes, she's always followed by trouble. there's two different races of werewolves revealed, bonnie's found love and elena is at a point that she doesnt know who to choose between:stefan or damen. if i were her, i seriously wouldnt know. damens the partier, guy who likes risks and is sweet and can do crazy stuff for love. stefan is the gentleman type who is the one that will take elena to the most beauti...more

This is the story I expected to happen in the previous book, Phantom. The writing style was better here than in Phantom; I assume LJS did not write a single word in this book.
So here we are at Dalcrest College, where Elena and Company start to drift apart while mysterious student disappearances and murders happen all over campus. Elena discovers her parents were members of a secret society at Dalcrest, which this year has invited Matt to join (but not Elena, which is really weird.) Elena decide...more

I thought volume one of The Hunters novels lacked Smiths unique touch, and Moonsong only accentuated this feeling. I was quite disappointed in this novel, it followed no real path and had little action throughout the story; in fact it seemed more like a romance novel of Elena and Bonnie rather than a vampire and supernatural novel exploring the unknown world we'd all love to be a part of.
I hate how disappointed I was by this novel cause I truly enjoyed the rest of the books in this series that S...more

The second book of Vampire Diaries: The Hunters - "Moonsong" continues the journey of the main characters at Dalcrest College in Virginia. They enter the college as Freshmen. But as always, supernatural troubles follow them there. Students are being attacked and have gone missing. The main characters begin their investigation of what they consider supernatural crimes. New characters are introduced with supernatural secrets of their own. They discover a secret society at Dalcrest called the Vital...more

I give this book zero ratings.
Seriously, ghost writer, you suck. And I don't say this often about books or writers, but you do. Maybe LJ Smith's writing wasn't always up to par but you CAN'T write. Why the publisher ever decided to hire a ghostwriter for The Hunters series is beyond me.
The characters are as lifeless as ever, if not even more. They have no soul, no personality. I've always considered Elena as a vain, ignorant, selfish, spoiled brat, but now she's not even that anymore. Heck, I...more

Moonsong is the second title in The Hunters line of The Vampire Diaries series, but the ninth in the entire series (taking into account the original four plus The Return line). Although the book is attributed to L.J. Smith, it is my understanding she is not the official author of this book. Having read the first six novels, I can say with 99% certainty that this is a ghost writer. Based on the number of references to the previous novels, I feel no need to read books 7 and 8. In this book, Elena...more
I am not a fan of this ghostwriter. Like the previous book to this, I am not impressed. The way this (and the previous) book is writen is just a little boring, and she/he focuses WAY too much on "dear, sweet, beautiful Stefan. Oh, sweet Stefan, my only love." And EVERY time Damon opens his mouth to Elena it's princess or darling or my love. This writer is not focused enough on the actual storyline. When Elena kissed Damon and was caught by Stefan - Stefan's reaction was WAY out of character! The...more
Elena, Steffan and the gang have gone off to college, some of them altering their plans in order to keep their group together in the event that paranormal evils descend upon them once more. And of course, they do. Bonnie finds a new guy, Meredith finds a kindred spirit, and Elena still can't make up her mind whether she likes Damon or Steffan better. Sounds like, same ol' same ol' - but surprisingly, it's not. In this book, the characters are growing up, and while the book is still written to be...more
The book Moonsong (The Vampire Diaries:The Hunters, #2) by L.J. Smith, a science fiction book with 392 pages has to do with Elena and her friends say goodbye to Mystic Falls and head to Dalcrest college. Elena, Stefan, and Damon are still a close knit group but gets a little shaky. Dalcrest has been having some odd disappearances, but anything supernatural the gang would have to step in.

This book was much better than the previous one. I loved how the supporting characters were given their own interesting storylines which were not only intense but also crucial to the overall plot and resolution. ***Spoilers Alert*** Matt and Chloe was awesome. I loved how Matt was able to move on from Elena. All along Matt has loved Elena, she is a part of him, a part of his past and she was all he really knew about love. Then comes along Chloe and love opens its doors again in Matt’s heart. The...more

This book was baffling, from the beginning of the book all Elena goes on about is how Stefan is the one for her. Seriously, the world almost ended, their loved ones died, their town got wrecked after a chaotic battle with foxes or squirrels or whatever the hell they were battling and all they care about is licking each other. After reading nine books I can honestly say that this series is dragging on and instead of putting 'thrilling new story' they could put 'we changed a few things but overall...more
Oh well, there goes my forlorn hope that a change of author and setting would mean an escape from the Bermuda Love Triangle that is Damon/Stefan/Elena. Instead it seems that the most eternal thing about the series is not its vampire protagonists but its tendency to make you want to smack the hell out of Elena. Being emotionally torn is one thing. Making out with your boyfriend's brother (repeatedly) behind his back is another.

The book is about Elena Gilbert who has fallen in love with two vampire brothers, and after fighting against many supernatural beings, Elena takes the next step in her life, starting college alongside her two best friends, Bonnie and Meredith, Matt and brothers Damon and Stefan. Elena is worried that the fight is not over, when students start to disappear around the campus.

The wrighting chg. a lot in this book. They have a ghost writer now, because they want to go along better with the TV program. anyway, all of the kids are getting ready to go off to Dalcrest College.Elena is hopeing things will normal in her life get back to sort of normal, because nothing is ever normal in her life. With a vampire for a boyfriend,& his brother,Damon, another vampire. Really LJ Smith - really???? What is this now? - the 8th book?
I mean, if the series had a purpose for it to last so long, then I would have been fine with it but this series does not come under that category.
It just goes on and on and on and...well you get my point.
I think she should have ended it with the 5th book or something instead of carrying it on. This absolutely amazing series that I used to LOVE, I now roll my eyes at it or glare at it when I am in a bookstore, looking for an awesome bo...more

After escaping the horrors of the Dark Dimension, Elena and her friends can’t wait to attend Dalcrest College, the beautiful ivy-covered campus where Elena’s parents met. Lets get this right. I hate this book for the simple fact of Elena Gilbert. The more I keep reading on through this series the more I start to hate all of the scenes she was in. I enjoyed her in the first four books but not these. The ghost writer has made her into something that seems like a paper cutout of what she used to be. The old Elena was stong and beautiful. Unlike these books in the series, she needs the help of Bonnie and Meredith to get her out of the trouble she causes. I was glad t...more
I admit to be an avid fan of The Vampire Diaries show, but I also love these books. They are all quite enthralling and I am never able to put them down until I finish the whole book. Oddly enough, I don't think the writing is spectacular--but the story always is. Moonsong is almost painful in the way the you know what's coming, but there's no way to prevent it -- and yet there's a (mostly) happy ending at the end of the day. The thing I admire most about these books is how completely Elena loves...more
I won't read any of the ghostwritten books for The Secret Circle series or The Hunters series. By giving a 1 star to these books, I'm showing my dislike for Alloy Entertainment & HarperCollins for firing L.J. Smith. They are not allowing her to write her books the way she wanted, because they only care about what sells and don't have any respect for story telling at all. I personally am a Stelena fan, but just cause I want a story to be one way doesn't mean it should be. They're not mine or...more
