Wow. Another thriller by Jeff Abbott. He is getting better and better at writing. This book was engaging, enthralling and fast-paced. I enjoyed his very three-dimensional characters. Miles Kendrick is a man who is put in Witness Protection. He also is being followed by his best friends ghost (really a mental projection) because he shot his best friend to death. When the psychiatrist he's seeing gets murdered, things start getting crazy. There is an experimental drug that treats PTSD, and everyon ...more
To start this review off, I shall say this book was actually my mothers before I adopted to reading it. It's such a shame my mother hadn't read this before because it is truly a great book for the matured.

It includes mental health issues which would be considered 'taboo' which I think Mr. Abbott addressed particularly well.

It's all about the main character whose having trouble with his past about killing his best friend. He has many phobia's linking to his troubled past which he has recollecti

I try not to pay too much attention to the ratings on books, but am somehow disturbed that this one has an overall rating of only 3.53. I think it is at least a solid 4.5, am an rounding up to raise the rating!! A very well put together thriller, fast-paced with great characters and believable action. There is even some humor in there, though it is subtle and nicely done. Definitely a GoodRead!

Miles Kendrick is in witness protection from the gangs he blew the whistle on during the course of which his best friend died and he believes that it was him that was responsible for shooting him during the sting.
He is undergoing therapy with a lady called Allison Vance but when she is killed in an explosion of her office things start to get even more crazy, he finds himself in the middle of a government conspiracy over a "wonder" drug that can maybe help victims of post traumatic stress disorde

Miles was a private investigator in his past life life before he was taken into witness protection program. Celeste is a gifted programmer that had some truly traumatic experiences. SERIES: Stanadlone thriller

Jeff Abbott was first published in the mid 1990s, when the Jordan Poteet series was introduced. Living in a small town in Texas, Poteet was a librarian and sometimes sleuth. Although the series was on the cozier side, it was one that I enjoyed. In fact, Do Unto Others won both the Agatha Award and the Macavity Award for Best First Novel. After writing four Poteet books, Abbott went on a

Ele estica demasiado a história.

I love Abbott's Sam Capra series so I went looking for all his other titles. He's been nominated for three Edgars and two Anthony Awards and at that point had only written eight books - got it? Five award nominations and only written eight books!!!!!

So this one is about a guy, Miles, who has PTSD, is in WITSEC but can't really remember how he killed his best friend. When his shrink gets blown up, it sets in motion a series of events that puts several sets of bad guys on his trail. He doesn't kno

I though it was an amazing book.
It's really catchy and putting down the book doesn't even cross your mind, the only thing you want to do is to keep going on.
The ending is unpredictable and it catches you by surprise.

Fear by Jeff Abbott is a thriller set in modern day America. The novel mostly deals with Miles Kedrick a former mob spy who is currently in witness protection. After the psychologist whom he sees for his post-traumatic stress disorder is apparently killed in an explosion at her office after asking him to investigate for her. He soon is joined by several other clients of the psychiatrist who are also searching for her killer. The quest is made more important because an experimental drug for curin ...more

So, on a whim to shake up my reading habits, I walked into my local library and picked the first three books from the start of the Adult Fiction aisle. The first three happened to all be by the same author so I lined them up chronologically and this was first on the stack.

I never read books like this. And this was not the most well-written book I've read by a long-shot but it was a page-turner. I finished it in three evenings and I enjoyed it very much.

Now, on to see what the second Abbott book

This kept me amused for a few train journeys to/from work, but I wasn't left with a powerful desire to seek out more stuff by Jeff Abbott. As decent a suspense thriller it was, it was alas inconsistent. The pattern seemed to be several chapters in a row of well-written 'character building' storyline, then three or four 'whizz-bang' chapters where the narrative was pushed forward quickly (often at the expense of tangibility) hence reducing the reader's immersion in the story.

Interesting medico-crime thriller. It's surprising more authors haven't explored the dramatic possibilities of an affliction like PTSD. Abbott does a decent job of portraying the vulnerability of the sufferers. The action scenes are very well-written. A couple of supporting characters (Nathan and Groote) are terrific. By the way, why the author chose the title 'Fear' is a mystery..

Wow...this is by far my LEAST favorite abbott book! I found the first quarter of the book barely tolerable and was on the verge of throwing it out completely...Only Abbott's proven excitement levels of his previous books compelled me to forge ahead....And finally the excitement level does pick up, but for me it did not rival his previous works. I didn't find the characters particularly likeable either, and that made the extended dialouge (not associated w/ his previous books) even more sluggish. ...more

Warning: might contain spoilers (what you may call spoilers)

It's the first time I’ve read an English book. It was a good book.
It was en exiting story about four people related to eachother by fate. Miles who experienced the death of his friend Andy and thinks he killed him. Groote who murders to help his daughter to cure her from her trauma after the car accident with her mother, makes the story obscure. Celeste who tries to kill herself by cutting her wrists is also scary. I also recommend this

The story was interesting enough, but it couldn't figure out if it wanted to be an action novel or a medical thriller. Ultimately there were too many character stereotypes and sweeping generalizations. Three characters allegedly had PTSD, but it seemed like the author was just picking three different psychoses and running with them, and even the other characters just call everyone "crazy". Even so, the PTSD protagonist(s) waver between helpless and superhero, killing people with no consequence. ...more

Not what I expected at all...after a surprising and promising start, the book lost itself in too many characters involved and too many twisted turns rotating around themselves so that at some point I lost track and - most important - interest of the ongoing events. Though I do remember the answer to the big question that kept me going on - what happened in Miles' past that his mind blocked it from memory - I can't clearly recall what happened in the story's present and how the book ended...
