I came across this book while browsing the used books at Goodwill. Awesome find! I have a tendency to chose dogs who are very intelligent and this usually means they have a definite mind of their own. This book has a lot of great tips for independent-minded dogs. I am raising my first puppy completely on my own (not a family dog) and would like him to be very well-behaved. Two important things to learn from this book:

1. You are not a freak.
2. Your dogs are not freaks.

Defining the traits of Non-Sporting dogs share was only trumped by the clear and precise way Fisher defined what Non-Sporting (the category) was. It was like a bright flash of light when I discovered my Dals aren't meant to work with me, genetically speaking- that breeders spent hundreds, maybe thousands, of years training them to be independent. This book is probably fine for puppy owners but what I really didn't like about it was that it said that adult Chihuahua's could not be trained, and I was looking for how to teach my adult Chihuahua some new tricks, which from help from the show, It's Me or the Dog, and Victoria Stillwell's book also titled It's Me or the Dog, I was able to successfully train my dog what I wanted to.
