Liralen
The stories in Images of Africa take place, mostly, in Botswana and Zambia. They're about individual people, mostly, or small communities; the events taking place are often monumental to the people involved but may or may not have significant ripples beyond that.

Mitchison's writing is thoughtful—she draws on local myths and legends, giving the impression that she's less putting a new twist on things than retelling old stories that Westerners are unlikely to have heard.
