Wow. You know that bit where you finish reading and you think you're going to do something else now but instead you have to sit still and kinda absorb until it all settles? Really, really liked Diamond Dogs. [return:][return:]Two novellas; Diamond Dogs is about a bunch of talented individuals challenging an alien puzzle device except it is really all about the relationships and obsession and, well, go read it. Turquoise Days is about a girl who gave herself over to an intelligent alien ocean and...more

Reynolds has created a complex universe in his Revelation Space trilogy - with potential story lines completely unrelated to the Revelation Space Universe.
This book is an extremely quick read with two short stories that take place in the Revelation Space Universe. Other than being set in the same universe they have no relation to the trilogy plots. Overall in his timeline, these stories occur before the events in Chasm City.

Two shorter stories set in Reynolds' Revelation Space universe. Diamond Dogs, in particular, is full of crazy science and pulp drama and a lot of fun. The language is occasionally a bit cumbersome, maybe because I don't understand half of the terminology. Still, it's nice to read some space opera that actually follows some kind of logic in terms of technology and such.

Short story fans,
This book of two short novellas or two long short stories seals it. I've figured out Reynolds at last. He writes about murder. All the characters are doomed. These stories are very fast paced and he really seems to have great skill at the concision and pacing needed for storytelling at this length. My favorite Reynolds thus far.

I almost never venture into short stories, again I just dont feel its typically worth my time to enter into a story universe if I dont get to stay long. But this author has me in his grip, and I was very pleased with this collection. Diamond dogs was my favorite of the stories.

A good introduction into the environments, races, and events of his larger Revelation Space saga. Diamond Dogs in particular is an incredibly fun, fast-paced story with a great twist at the end. Turquoise Days takes some time to get in to but is equally fulfilling.

This reads fine, but it is a waste of time because it never goes anywhere. Asimov would have made it a 50 page short story with lots of math, no character development, and an interesting twist. Reynolds just wanders.

I love the revelation space universe so it's a 5 rated book for me. I did enjoy the first novella, "Diamond Dogs" better than "Turquoise Days".

Of the two, I liked Diamond Dogs best. Very clever.
