Katie Woo is a sweet girl who is nervous about staying the night at her grandparents for the first time. It is okay in the day, but at night, it gets dark. The big bed is just so high, and the walls are a yucky color. This is the perfect book to read to your little girl before you send her off to stay the night with her grandparents for the first time. Katie spends a nervous night away from home at her grandparents house. She enjoys planting tomoatoes with her grandfather and making wontons with her grandmother but at night, the bed is too high and she wants to go home. Comforted by her mother's old teddy bear and favorite lullabies, Katie is soon content to stay and plans to return again soon. A glossary, discussion guide, and activities are included.
Illustrated by Tammie Lyon. With illustrations that perfectly represent vocabulary that might be unknown, this book is an excellent easy reader. Although it was by no means exciting, I can definitely see this book being useful if a child is worrying about being away from home or as a preventative source of familiarity with the issue. I'm assuming the other Katie Woo books are similar in this way and I will definitely be recommending them in the future.
