This book is about a girl named Savannah Henderson. She is a fencer, and she loves it. She can’t picture herself doing anything else. In one of the tournaments, a guy named Aaron, who owns a fencing studio, offers to teach her more advanced moves. Now, Savannah takes two fencing classes, all while struggling to get good grades—because, if she doesn’t, her parents won’t allow her to fence. She meets Aaron’s son, Luke, and they become attracted to each other. But then she finds out the people she now knows aren’t human—they’re something else.

Yeah. That’s all I can say.

This book was a good, enjoyable read. I didn’t LOVE it, but it wasn’t hard to read or anything. The only thing that I really didn’t like about this book was the cheesy romance. Okay, yeah, I understand that the guy was very unbelievably hot, but…he called Savannah ‘beloved’ and ‘my love.’ I have never, ever, ever heard teenagers speak like that, no matter how great their relationship is. Hell, my parents don’t speak like that. It honestly bothered me every time that happened. Also, their relationship just happened too fast. They didn’t even know each other! They only knew that they both liked fencing and that Savannah sucked at school. Awesome. They kissed in the first 50 pages (page 52, to be exact), and I just…I don’t know. Blah. And yes, they did say ‘I love you’ in the book, which also really bothered me, because it hadn’t been long at all! And they fought sometimes, but it was always about the same thing. It reminded me of the arguments Luce and Daniel from the FALLEN series had in Torment. But, the thing is…these two always got back together after, like, a day or two. They barely talked about it.

But the plot was good. I liked it. I liked Taylor and her band. Savannah was likeable (but I preferred Taylor). Luke was a good character, unless you count the ‘my love’ and ‘beloved’ thing. Also, he was very overprotective, even when Savannah proved she could defend herself. And he sometimes stalked her. And she was okay with it.
And I know it may seem like I’m saying all of the bad things, but the book had likable characters, like Pops. His story was sad and I loved him. And, well…Ruth, Aaron, Warren, Savannah, Taylor, Maria…all of them were great.

Do I recommend this book? Sure. I liked it. But I’m not gonna say you have to read it because it is the best book I have ever read. It isn’t. But I enjoyed it, and it didn’t bore me. So, if you ever have the chance to read it, go ahead! It isn’t a bad book at all. It isn’t fantastic, either. It’s a good, enjoyable read. It has a good storyline, good characters, and a good setting—it’s set in Florida, and I love Florida.

Also, I feel like I need to say this: I noticed a couple of mistakes in the book. They were minor, but they were there. This doesn’t affect my review at all, but I just thought I should point that out.

I give this book a 3/5 stars.

Huh, go figure. Over the year or so that I have been a member on Goodreads I have had a few authors request that I add them as friends. I am happy to do it since I am always open to try new books. Yesterday I happened to finish one book which had a very good ending. That normally makes me extremely critical over whatever comes next. Yesterday I happened to finish one book which had a very good ending. That normally makes me extremely critical over whatever comes next. I happened to receive a Tweet from Gabrielle Blue requesting friend status on Twitter. I love following authors, even those I have not read before. Some people are music groupies. I am a book groupie. I love to learn about new books and the ideas that go into them. So I sent a sample of Children of the Lost Moon to my Kindle. I liked the sample and decided the price was good.

Anyone who knows me really well knows that though I loved the Twilight series books I am not a fan of the movies at all and have stayed away from them since the first movie. I was a bit worried when I began reading Children of the Lost Moon. I was not in the mood for anything that was going to be reminiscent of Twilight. I stuck it out and I really am glad that I did. Not only was Savannah a good character in her own right, but, I loved the whole fencing backdrop. I have wanted to take fencing lessons for a long time. I waited so long that the local fencing school suffered from the economy and closed. Now, I have to register as a student at Michigan State University to have access to their fencing club. Since I am already nearing the end of a PhD that is really not something I want to do at this time. It was wonderful reading about it and learning the names of the different positions and thrusts. I loved reading about the competitions. I enjoyed reading about Savannah's love for the different blades.

Another great thing was Roxy. She was great comic relief and really loved grapes. I hate to see what would happen if they ever had a freeze in Florida and could not find grapes for that bird. I'm imagining no sleep to be had until they had some imported as Roxy yelled "grapes", "grapes", "grapes" all day and all night. There were some really great characters in this book. To be honest I was happier with Savannah not being that predictable with her transitions and growth. This made the story Gabrielle Blue's original work and her own niche. But, outside of that Ruth and Poppy were my favorites. The very ones that seemed to have the most depth to them were the ones that stood out because they were not the warriors of the pack. They brought the most to the story by how much they gave to the pack by just being different. I am not sure what the future holds for these characters. But, I would enjoy reading more about them.(less)

If you are a teenager into paranormal romance, or someone older with the spirit of one, you will love this book. I was left very much fulfilled by the writing, story and depth to the characters in Children of the Lost Moon. Its flow and pace reads elegantly and effortlessly. Soon I felt like I was in my teenage years all over again--add an increase in temperature here, gently simmer, and you are now mushy. Without an overflow of guilt to have to clean from your conscience afterwards. There are some familiar cliches in this book that are taking the heat now--werewolves being one--but these ones have been revved up to be believable. And I wouldn't suggest trying to kiss one. Along with some various shapeshifters, romance and a protagonist in first person point of view, who expertly wields a sword, you are now ready to take aim at your future. I won't spoil it to whether or not that works out for Savannah as she has planned, but forget about sitting pretty all day and waiting on everyone else to live your life for you. That's more for YA readers who would rather pretend to be a pampered princess in a world that exists solely to make them happy. Which would work better if they took that kinda stuff off Earth. Children of the Lost Moon is very much grounded and in tune with the rules of reality, and handles that just as well on the edge of a sword, or in the teeth and claws of its shapeshifters.

Count on the laws of attraction to make things complicated.

I am usually extremely picky when it comes to first person point of view, but this one worked for me. I believe it is well written enough to be enjoyed by everyone. If you know an older woman in need of a story to make her feel young again, this is your ticket. I will be reading this book again when I find myself feeling old, just so I can remember how it feels to be younger.

Unless there's a sequel unknowing to me, where in that case I'm staying young in anticipation.(less)

A teenage fencing champion starts training with a new coach and is thrust into the world of shapeshifters. She faces danger and life changes that test her both emotionally and physically.

I found this book to be reasonably well written, with likable characters and an interesting plot. I did think though, that the characters could have been developed further to add more to the story - especially Savannah, Luke and Taylor.

This is one of those books where I looked at the cover and thought "meh" but the inside was SO good. From the summary I got the idea I would be following a girl through an epic battle between two species where she was caught in the crossfire. Which happens but it's not what the book was centered around. The story was more character driven than plot driven and the budding romance between Savannah and Luke takes center stage.

Can I just start off by saying that from the time I got back from the mailbox to the amount of time it took me to finish, not even half a day passed? That's right, read this in ONE sitting (that's saying something!). Savannah Henderson has earned a spot as one of my favorite female protagonists of all times. This was such a pleasantly surprising paranormal romance! The characters were strong, the paranormal aspect put a new spin on werewolves and shape shifters, plus there was lots of sweet romance to go around!

The main character, Savannah, is different from any character I have read before. She had all these little quirks that made her so special and unique. First of all she is a fencer. This is something I know absolutely NOTHING about but it just so happens that this is a HUGE part of the book. No worries here though because there were so many details laced throughout the story that I am pretty sure I could watch a fencing fight/dual/whatchamacallit and understand what was going on. Really, the author(s) did such a great job explaining a completely foreign sport to me. Secondly, this girl was tough. Not in the kind of way where she goes off and punches people in the face or carries a gun in her back pocket (although there are a few scenes where there is a sword in her backseat). She is just full-out strong. Absentee-parents and a go-getter attitude make this girl, in my eyes, heroic. She doesn’t sit around whining about her issues or so impossibly dumb that she can’t walk without tripping (*cough* Twilight *cough*). She takes matters into her own hands, she tries very hard to stand on her own two feet, and she makes it a point to let everyone know that she can handle things on her own. Seriously, I love strong female lead characters.

Another character that is SOO worth mentioning and swoon-worthy (I am having a really hard time finding a male character who isn’t swoon-worthy) is Luke. Ahhh…so dreamy :) This is a guy who is strong, handsome, and completely in love with Savannah. He sees that Savannah is a truly lonely girl regardless of her forefront and he, along with his AWESOME family take her in. He uses his manners all the time and even has to remind Savannah of certain rules. He is quite a gentleman and I love that about him. Before I get too into my reason of why he is great I should mention that he is a shape shifter. This leads me to the paranormal aspect of the story. See paragraph below for more information vvvv.

I told you the uniqueness of the paranormal aspect in this story was great and I wasn’t lying. In the world that Gabrielle Blue set up for us, werewolves are terrible beasts set on ruining the human population. If you are not killed by a werewolf, you are turned into one. A species set on defending the human population is shape shifters. These are human-ish people with special abilities to change into any animal form, heal very quickly, and age at impossibly slow rates. I found that the human girl falling in love with a slow-aging, completely hot guy, while slow-aging completely hot guy gets overbearing and protective of girl, and then girl must decide on whether her love for him is worth sticking around for….on and on and on, a bit overdone but I liked the way that these two worked through their problems. You could tell they had real, genuine feelings for one another.

The only thing I think this book could have had more of was fighting scenes. I feel like a total tom-boy saying that but I thought there was all this hype building up to a war between sworn enemies, the werewolves and the shape shifters but in the end there was only one serious fight. More encounters with werewolves, more scary situations, and more action in general would have been totally awesome!

In the end, I was very surprised with the book. It was a quick read with a lot of great qualities. I recommend it to all those crazy fans of paranormal books ;)

The Children of the Lost Moon is a self published book written by two sisters under the alias Gabrielle Blue.

I really wanted to love this story, it had a lot of elements that I enjoy, but in the end, I felt as though something was missing.

There’s a gutsy heroine, a strong hero, a fantastical love story and slew of characters that you want to fall in love with. I couldn’t however, because of the continual reminders that pointed me back to a certain vampire novel.

This paranormal romance is a gentle story, more character than action based, but with enough action to keep propelling the story forward. This is an easy-to-read teen novel. There's no doubt about that. With a kick-ass, likeable lead female and a hot male love interest it's definately not an unpleasant read. There's plenty of action, believable teen romance and all in a clearly depicted setting. Sure, it's not in-depth, explorative or in anyway heavy, but it doesn't pretent to be either. However, it's not without tragedy, sadness and dissapointment. It's definately a "Come-along-for-the-ride" kind of story.

My thoughts...

Loved this story...shape shifters and a love story and action!!!
The plot in this novel...let me just say that it was not complex but it was fascinating. The characters, the details, the lush background...all of these kept me interested and a bit unable to put the book down.
