Garnet Lacey vowed never to do magic again. Not after that scene with the Vatican assassins in Minneapolis where she called on the Goddess Lilith, who left a swath of destruction so huge Garnet had to leave town.

Eight months later, and several hundred miles away, she’s now the manager of Mercury Crossing, Madison, Wisconsin’s premier occult bookstore and herb emporium where the employees are prime examples of witches without a clue.

One day, just as she’s closing the bookstore, in...more

Garnet Lacey is a witch who has quit magic cold turkey. An explanation of why will be given in the book, but Garnet feels like a junkie in need of a fix. She also has an inner Goddess, Lilith, who has taken residence in her womb, a destructive creature that threatens to surface every time Garnet has strong emotions. Lately Garnet finds herself less able to control Lilith, and things get turned upside down when Sebastian walks into Garnet's shop. Garnet realises that Sebastian is dead, and soon s...more

I couldn't really get into this book. I usually love paranormal books, but this premise and story just didn't appeal to me.

The main character, Garnet, is a witch and is also host to the goddess Lilith. She is on the run from Vatican agents, witch-hunters essentially, who killed her entire coven.

I just think this book needed a bit more time brewing. The concepts are there but just not complete. It all came across as just kind of weird. I still don't have a clear picture of these bad guys...more

I saw this book while browsing at the bookstore and was intrigued, but wary – I am in general wary of vampire/magic novels… but this one seemed to take itself a little less seriously than others… and given my feelings towards the Catholic church, I was probably drawn to the idea of the Vatican as the bad guy in the story. I got it out of the library and read it yesterday (8/16) while I was out and about on Metro. It was OK. I ended up skim-reading through it, and I liked parts of it, in...more

I read this book and then my boss asked me what I thought of it. I told him it was pretty good - Good enough that I would be on the look out for the second one. He then told me he was friends with the author. Huh.

I am not sure what to say about this other than it was a pretty good book. I always try and cut first books a little slack and hope the series picks up. (Or just the authors writing improves if it's not a series.)

I did find myself a little annoyed at Garnet at times. She was im...more

This is another light read. If you are someone who enjoys the Southern Vampire Series, I can see you enjoying these books, at least the ones I have read so far.

The main character, Garnet Lacey, is a witch trying not to use her powers because of something that happened in her recent past. This is a particular challenge since the same confrontation that left her magic shy also left her as the host for badass Goddess Lilith (Adam's first wife).

Staying away from magic is hard while Garnet m...more

This book is really cute. I enjoyed the world that Tate Hallaway created and am looking forward to reading more in this series.

Garnet is a Wiccan whose coven was slaughtered by Vatican witch hunters. Enraged, she called down the dark goddess Lilith who avenged the murders but now has taken up permanent residence within her body. Struggling to balance the two while evading the Vatican is difficult, especially when Sebastian, a vampire, enters her life.

This book is confusing and not that satisfying. The vampire ex subplot is weak, and Garnet just isn't as likeable as other heroines. Additionally, there isn't much roma...more

If you're looking for something completely different from all of the vampire/witch books you see on bookstore shelves, then this is the book for you. Garnet's internal struggle for control of her body and for some resolution of her actions after the Vatican assassins killed her coven added another layer to the story. I also enjoyed all of the incidental information about astrology and herbs. A nice step away from the norm and I hope to read more by this author in the future.

I forget who recommended this book to me, but it was enjoyable. A quick read, nothing spectacular and the plot almost seemed like a necessary evil to show off the author's awesome characters. I'm not sure it completely delivers though on those characters. Then again, it appears to be the first of a few books, so maybe the characters get better expanded.

Not a bad beach read or something for a lazy Sunday where you don't want to think very hard.

I have been wanting to read this book for a while now. It is recommended by one of my favorite paranormal romance writers, MaryJanice Davidson, and I have to say I was not disappointed. The story was exciting and the love triangle between Parrish, Garnet and Sebastian kept me reading!

I think this book is great for a little light reading. I finished it in a weekend. I think it would be perfect for the beach or sitting by

Amusing, and more interesting than anything else I've seen that could be said to fall into the paranormal romance genre. I prefer the author's SF series, personally (written under the name Lyda Morehouse), but this was fun. I am more curious about some of the things I suspect won't get developed in this sort of novel, e.g. how is the Vatican powerful enough in this universe to have witch-hunting assassins? But I guess you can't have everything.

Fun read, but not recommended to those who dislike romance novels/sex scenes in books. It's the story of a witch who falls in love with a vampire. Actually, a couple of vampires--one of whom also happens to be a powerful alchemist the Vatican (our nefarious bad-guys) are after. The book is fast-paced and a quick read, but may be a better option for those practicing wicca.

I saw this book a few weeks ago while ambling around the library. I'm not usually a fan of vampire/magic novels. This is why. It's not a BAD book really. I just couldn't ever really get into it. Plus, there was just too much trying to fit into too few pages. All in all, a decent waste of time.

I enjoyed this paranormal fantasy featuring Garnet Lacy. I liked how she gradually learned to share with her friends her past and how she gained internal strength to confront the goddess Lilith. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, Dead Sexy.

This book is a good halloween read involving witches, vampires, and the like. Occassionally heroine gets on my nerves with her ability to switch between men... But that's just a personal preference. Writing is average and book moved along quickly.

My first Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance. I was definitely not disappointed. It's been a while since I had read this book but I do remember it being one of those hard to put down books, pretty much read it in one sitting. Well balanced and exciting.

I enjoyed this book. It's cute, an enjoyable read. I am looking forward to more adventures with Garnet.

Tate Hallaway has created an interesting world where magic is real as are Vampires and the Vatican is not happy about it.

This was just plain fun to read. A nice rest from complicated plots and complex characters. There was a lot of witchcraft in it which is not really my cup of tea, but there was enough action to keep me hooked till the end.

This was definitely different than anything I have ever read before, I have not been much into witchcraft. It was a quick read, not one of my favorites though. I have the second one to read...I will wait a while though.
