Hmmmmmm look at what I’m reading… Ignore the stupid title and clichéd series name. And the perverted cover. Geez there are lots of things that would make a person avoid reading this. I’m not sure why I picked it. Oh wait.

Muahahaha I couldn’t help myself!

Well well… What can I say about this Awaken Me Darkly? It’s mostly typical UF to my entire disappointment. I like a good UF as any cool and important person but my dear Huntress of Aliens is not the most special kid in class. The story is mediocr...more

I have been saving this series for a long, long time, not because I thought it would be amazing and I wanted to save it for later but because it was the last series I had yet to read from this outstanding author. I knew I wouldn't be as attached to it as her LOTU series but I still knew I would like it big time because I adore how she writes. Well, I am glad to say I even liked it much more than what I thought I would after reading most of the reviews out there.

I never thought aliens co...more

The city is Chicago, the time: the distant future (it was never specified). A series of killings has erupted, and A.I.R is on the case. I know sounds silly, right? :P

Awaken me Darkly begins the Alien Huntress series with Alien Investigation and Removal agent, Mia Snow. She is an expert when dealing with "other-worlders", and as a series of killings unfold in Chicago, Mia and her team must track the killer before it is too late. But as they begin their trail in finding a suspe...more

Mia is a hard-ass A.I.R. agent who never lets anything stand in her way, but from the first time she lays eyes on arcadian Kyrin, she can't get him out of her head. But when her partner Dallas is hurt and near death, Kyrin can save him...for a price. He wants his sister Lilla released from the A.I.R. holding cell, then he'll save Dallas. Mia tries to set him up, but he captures her and they get to know each other. I love the way the ending leaves a happily ever after, but also there's enough lee...more

This was a fast paced , kick butt book. I was a little nervous since I am not a huge fan of alien books. But I love Gena Showalter and so I figured I would give it a chance. I am glad I did. I look forward to the next book and hope that some of the other characters will be in it. Kinda fond of some of them. Want more Dallas and Jaxon.

JUN: Who do you think you are?

Theoretically this should have been a buddy read :D It's just Gena Showalter writes such a compelling book that i literally couldn't put it down!

It has loads of action, kick ass hero and heroine, sensuality, murder :>, a mystery... in other words: read it! ASAP!

I am still not sure what genre to stick this book in. The romance was light. There was only one sexual encounter between Mia & Kyrin. The sex that was there was definitely hot! I liked the story. There was plenty of action and fighting. I wish there had been some sort of closure with Dare; perhaps we will see some more of him in later books. I appreciated that the author included a where the lead males money came from. I realize that we readers want our handsome romantic male overly wealthy,...more

A detective story wrapped up in a future world that includes many alien races? What a wonderful imagination, Gena Showalter possesses. I enjoyed this story from start to finish and I will definitely be continuing on with this series.

It had the feel of a gritty Urban Fantasy in the beginning with Mia, an Alien Investigation and Removal Unit Hunter and her team out investigating a series of kidnappings and now murder. Their investigation leads them to a prime suspect, but Mia still thinks there's...more

So, in order to acknowledge my quirk for chronology I decided to start the whole Alien Huntress series from the start, since I had the first two books anyways and even though that I am supposed to review all the top new titles, I will be indulging myself in everything that can make you go squee, especially if the reader is new on the scene. Before "Savor me Slowly" Gena Showlater didn't ring a bell at all.

Mia Snow is a special agent in the New Chicago Police Department, working in the A.I.R unit...more

I had my reservations about trying this series but I was pleasantly surprised. Mia Snow, is a kick-a$$ alien hunter who reminds me of a cross between Eve Dallas meets Ellen Ripley meets Sarah Connor. Gena Showalter has built a dark, frightening world, where earth has become invaded by powerful aliens. Investigator Mia Snow, stops at nothing to try and stop a serial killer who has been killing human men. I had a hard time categorizing this book. It's not a paranormal romance but it's not an urban...more

Okay Okay okay, I concieve!! More a less a 3 star read but Im feeling generous considering I actually enjoyed this far more than I expected to.

By all my own bases, this book should be terrible. The idea of aliens somewhat disturbs me, Im not a fan of the heavy-romance or the sci-fi genre and the cover screams absolutely trashy. And yes, at times its absolutely trashy but still, I enjoyed this.

The plot is surprisingly good. There's a few twists and turns throughout that actually managed to surp...more

I adore Gena Showalters Lords of the Underworld series, so I was really expecting to love this one as well. Only, I kinda didn't. It was...ok. This book is set sometime in the future and "otherworlders" have come to settle in our (dimension? plane? earth? who knows, it was never explained) world. Mia, a hunter, is assigned to find a killer of dark haired, dark eyed men. Her search brings her to Kyrin, an alien, who is suspected to be behind the crimes.

The book reads as part standard romance, pa...more

Mia Snow is an alien hunter in New Chicago. When her partner is seriously hurt and near death due to an on-going investigation, she is forced to put her trust in a suspect. Kyrin en Aar is a mysterious Arcadian alien who can help Mia in more was than one.
This book had a lot flaws, but it also had a few things going for it.
The context was neat, and it was a really quick read. The female protagonist, Mia Snow was interesting and an ass kicker, but also little irritating. Her reactions to new inform...more

Surprisingly different from Showalter's other novels. And surprisingly good.

The Alien Huntress series is set in an alternate future. A little like Eve Dallas, but way better. There are aliens, other-worlders, living among the humans, but they don't have equal rights. They can be killed on sight if they harm a human, are barely tolerated. Humans almost destroyed the Earth when they tried to battle them - and failed - so they in the end agreed on living together, as long as no human was harmed.

First in the Alien Huntress paranormal romance series. It will definitely be my last in this series.

The Story
Mia Snow has been called out to a homicide. A man, William Steele, has been found nude in a dicey neighborhood and it's only luck that Mia and Dallas each find a clue that narrows the list of suspects down. All on that list are aliens, which confirms that their unit, AIR, is in charge.

The team members of AIR are hoping this isn't a serial killer as Steele is the fifth man who's been snatc...more

Gena Showalter’s “Awaken Me Darkly” is the first in her Alien Huntress series. I am a huge fan of Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld Series and I couldn’t wait to see how these books measure up.

The story centers on Mia Snow, a delicate looking, tough as nails agent for the Alien Investigation and Removal Agency. Aliens live on Earth and have for 70 years. Many are friendly, but the AIR protects humans from those who are not.

Mia is trying to solve a string of murders perpetrated by an alien, whi...more

Awaken Me Darkly starts with an interesting mystery, decent characters, and a large dose of butt kicking. The main character is of course pretty and tough, just like every other main character in this genre. She gets along well with the boys, and of course hates the bad guys. The bad guys in this series are aliens, but we don't get much worldbuilding here. I would have loved to know more about the different types of aliens, and about how and why they are on Earth, but the focus here is on the ma...more

Mia Snow is an alien huntress who doesn't like other-worlders and works for A.I.R. in the city of New Chicago. In a time when aliens walk amongst us. She heads an invastigation about a series of killings involving something that goes much deeper than first appears and winds up affecting her personally on many levels.

This is my first Gena Showalter book and I will definitely return for more. And not only to the Alien books! She delivers a wonderful, layered and rich story weaved with mystery and...more

This is the first book in the Alien Huntress series by Gena Showalter. I really liked her book "Playing with Fire". I was a bit leery about this book because...well...it's called "Awaken me Darkly" and it has a scantily clad woman in a black corset on the cover; it kind of screamed romance to me. Well, it is not a romance. It is a tightly packed paranormal crime novel, with back to back action scenes and a sex scene thrown in for good measure.

Mia Snow is part of AIR, Alien Investigation and Remo...more

Awaken Me Darkly is set in the future when different species of aliens are openly living amongst humans. Mia is part of a law enforcement group that specifically deal with alien-related crime. She hunts down the criminals and if she finds them guilty, they are executed. There is no trial.

Mia is a no-nonsense kick-ass alien hunter, she's had a tough life growing up. Her mother left after she was born, her two brothers were murdered and her father stopped loving her and turned abusive when her fir...more

“Mezzanotte. L’ora delle streghe, secondo qualcuno. Visto che erano le 00:07 e io stavo in piedi sopra un cadavere, ero d’accordo.”: è così che conosciamo Mia Snow, protagonista della serie Alien Huntress, entrando subito nel cuore dell’azione, proprio come piace a questa tosta nuova eroina. Ma conosciamo meglio sia lei che la storia.
Mia Snow ha 28 anni, grandi occhi azzurri, capelli neri lisci, un viso ovale dagli zigo...more

Generally speaking, I've liked all of Gena Showalter's books that I've read. That said, this one felt a little ... thin. I see that it's one of her earlier books and I have to say that I can definitely see how her writing has matured and deepened. Which isn't to say that I disliked this book because I thought it was a pretty fun little romp, however it isn't quite at the same level as later books.

The thing is that I really enjoyed the world that was created here. I can see the beginnings of a hu...more

Hmmmm.... Well this was different book from Gena Showalter. Written in first person (not my favorite narrative) and the first in her Alien Huntress series. I wasn't too sure I was going to like this book after seeing the relatively low rating from Goodreads, but I was pleasantly surprised - I would give it between a 3.5-4 star rating.
The heroine, Mia Snow, is a cocky and arrogant agent (or huntress) working for a futuristic organization (A.I.R) whose purpose it is to protect humans from nefario...more

I did not love this book. I first encountered the Alien Huntress series through Showalter's short story in the Deep Kiss of Winter (which I had bought for Kresley Cole's story, having never read Showalter before). That story had heat, intrigue, was fast-paced, and fun.

This book...not so much. I liked how hard-assed Mia Snow was, but there was truly NO chemistry between her and Kyrin. They were blah. I didn't find anything compelling about Kyrin either. He was blah. Perhaps that was the problem....more

Mia is an alien hunter when Earth now has so many aliens living on it that they need an alien police force to punish them. A lot of times it means death with no judge or jury. The Earth officials don't want the humans to know how bad some of these aliens are so the hunters are not well liked. The book starts with a body being left with a ribbon around his penis. This leads to an alien woman named Lilla who dated the dead guy and her brother Kyrin. Kyrin, I just don't understand. They are on this...more

I loved the story. It was fast-paced, intriguing and kept me at the edge of my seat. I couldn't put it down. The only thing bothering me is that the characters' personalities weren't credible, like they'd say something at one point and do something completely uncharacteristic in the other. Or just change their minds in a heart beat.
However, I recommend it to everyone who loved Night Huntress, although it doesn't match Cat and Bones' brilliance.
