It was amazing because I generally don't like "a boy and his dog books" and I'm not a hunter but I couldn't put it down and I was crying and smiling at the same time by the end of the book. Loved it and plan to order it for my library and I will be checking out the other books by Cynthia DeFelice to add to my collection.

But his plans get derailed when both his parents are called up to go to Iraq and he is sent to live with grandparents he barely knows in rural South Dakota. His Oma seems nice enough, but Big Darrell, his grandfather, is another story. Eric befriends a stray hunting dog, discovers a shotgun in the house, and takes off to live off the land. He ...more

I read this book, Wild Life, a while ago. It was a short and really easy book! The authors writing style is very simple and like many other books. I think that anybody would really be able to understand what the book is about.
The story is mainly about a boy, Eric, who has to go live with his grandparents that he barely knows even exists. His parents were both being deployed and he has to live in North Dakota. The main characters are Eric, Oma, Big Darrell and Quill. Quill is the main character

I have just finished the book Wildlife by Cynthia DeFelice about a teenager whos parents have been sent to teach soldiers in Iraq. Erik is twelve years old and will be living in North Dakota for six months. His grandfather is a cold hearted man and his grandma is warm and loving. Eriks personality has changed since he had run away from his grandparents and he has matured. When Erik came back to his grandparents, he accepted the fact that he was going to be in big trouble. "Aren't you going to ye ...more

I didn't think this book flowed well. I thought that this book was going to take me on an adventure but it ended up loosing my attention. The part I liked the most was the least amount written about. I enjoyed reading about the boy and his dog and how they were bonded. What I didn't like was the amount of time the author spent on the survival part of the book. The author repeated themselves and it made for a boring read. It was a good book about adventure but could have been presented differentl ...more

I really enjoyed this book because it showed me how a young boy can fight for something that he loves. If someone is willing to run away from home with just a shotgun so that he can keep his dog that is love. I can only imagine how hard it is for a teenager like him to move to the middle of nowhere with his grandparents that he has never met. When i read the summary of the book on the back i thought that the book would be more about him hunting with his dog but after reading the book i realized ...more

Wild life is a fiction story that takes place in New York. Erick is a young 12 year old boy with a burning passion for hunting. The story starts off by showing Erik’s passion for hunting by using a lot of enthusiasm for when Erik passed his test for his hunting license. They had him coming into the house screaming “ I passed” two times. Erik was also excited because he knew by passing the test this would allow him to go on the hunting trip he had planned with his friend. And their champion bird ...more

This book is one of my all-time favorite books. I would recommend books about anybody that likes things in nature and hunting. One of the main reasons I like this because It is a totally real situation I have probably having too many people across America. Also another reason like this book is because when he runs away with a dog and even just when he first gets the dog and raises it to be his own he shows what a good person he is and then when he runs away and goes on the Plains and prove himse ...more

It was great I loved how Erik ran away and survived off the land with Quill. It was good that Erik returned to home so Oma & Big Darrel would not have to pay $5,000 dollars. It was Trilling, Adventurous, & sometimes funny. You should definitely read it. My favorite part was when Erik found Quill and instantly fell in love.

A very good book about a boy and dog who become best friends. Also, there are many interesting parts in the book where you keep wanting to know what happens next. Also, it could really happen, but wouldn't be very common.

Wild Life is a great book, the character(s) are somewhat relatable and interesting. The plot keeps you reading chapter after chapter. I feel like the only wrong was the length of the book, I wish it was longer. All in all, I loved this book.

I actually really loved this book. In the book Erik goes to stay with his grandparents who he doesn't really know because his dad is being deployed to Iraq. When he gets their he finds a lost dog, names it quill and takes care of it. After a while Erik can't take Big Darrel anymore so he finds his uncles gun
and camping gear. He thinks he can go live off the land with just him and his dog. After this their family relationships are better.

This book was very good. It's about a boy that is living with his grandparents. He finds a dog with porcupine quills all over it's and he removes all of them. His grandparents want to find the owner and give him back but he grows to love the dog and runs away with the dog with only a shotgun and bullets. And the story is about him staying alive in the wild with his new dog.
