I grabbed this particular book off the leasing shelf on a whim, began it in the station waiting for the train and could not put it down. Apparently, Sandford writes a series of novels that would be difficult to classify as either mysteries or thrillers. They all have the word “prey” in the title, and Lucas Davenport as protagonist. In this latest work, Davenport is a deputy chief of the Minneapolis Police Department.

Clara Rinker is a hitwoman. Raped after working one evening a...more

I finished this book on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and immediately picked up the next one in the series. It's like an addiction - I can't seem to get enough Lucas Davenport adventures.

I'm about half way through the Lucas Davenport series and have yet to be bored or find any of the books predictable. It amazes me that Sanford can keep coming up with new, interesting and sometimes evil characters. His writing grabs me from the start and I have a hard time putting it down. A great, easy r...more

Todd is the one who turned me on to the "Prey books". I love them and once I start reading one, I will read it every spare minute I get. This is my favorite one so far; it is the first one where I am almost rooting for the villain--at least one of the two villains. You'll probably understand if/when you read it. For you Minnesotans, you'll find extra enjoyment in the fact that all of Sandford's books take place somewhere in or very near Minnesota. This book is exciting and suspens...more

First Sandford book for me. I can see why he's so popular. This was from 1999 and I'll have to check for a sequel because it certainly ended set up for one. The "perp" is a female hitman which brings a new perspective to the job. Apparently the hero-Alex Delaware- is featured in many of Sandford's books. I found him to be rather dull. The perps were far more interesting.

I loved this book as well. I've come the conclusion that John Sandford has a somewhat sick imagination. But that is what leads to great books. This one involved a Professional Killer and a lawyer. The ending was dissappointing to me, but what can ya do??

I am blazing through these books. Every one is just as good as the previous and the stories just as complex, making you sit at the edge of your seat until the very last pages. On to the next!!!

Another great page-turner filled with close calls and near misses. This one finds Lucas Davenport on the trail of a professional female killer who has quite a few loose ends to tie up.

I have read all the books in the "Prey" series plus all of Sanford's other books. I like his writing style and the fact that many of his books are set in Minnesota.

the first book with the rinker character (shows up in a later book - mortal prey). unfortunately, the second book with rinker is much better.

This wasn't my favorite Lucas Davenport book, but it was still a good read. You just can't so wrong with this series.

I think it's my favorite in the Prey series, but maybe that's just cause it's a hit woman for once...
