A mixed response to this one - I liked the way the characters were written, whilst not particularly liking them as people. I liked the way the story built up although what happened wasn't very much. I liked the setting, although the tone got a little annoying after a while. Overall I wonder if this is more of a ladlit read than suits me?

Niven Govinden tells the story of Veerapen Prendrapen, a Tamil-Jew adolescent growing up in Surrey. His father's run off with an optician, he's in love with Moon Jones, and he's just been to her funeral.
The story is told in 'real-time' and flashbacks.
I've never read or researched mush into happy-slapping and weird teenage activities in the UK before, so this was a bit of an eye-opener. It makes me despair, though.
