Snuggle Up, Sleepy Ones
Pre-K – 1st grade
The text is simple yet provoking. It has great descriptive language, for example “Through wild, waving grasses shy antelope roam”. The author also uses rhyming at the end of each sentence. Therefore, each page consists of two sentences or phases, in which the last word of each rhymes.
The illustrator, Macnaughton, does a wonderful job making the illustration peaceful and inviting. The animals and surrounding look natural and realistic, but have again that...more

Mommy Bookworm’s Thoughts: This is a very cute book with wonderful illustrations for anyone who loves animals! I think that even toddlers would enjoy the book because of the illustrations even though they couldn’t read the text. It shows the love of families through cute wild animals, which pulls at my heartstrings since I love animals!!

Dahlia Bookworm’s Thoughts: I like the cute pictures because they show the mom (or dad) and the baby animal. I like how the author wrote different things for ea...more

A wonderful bedtime book! My daughter loved having this book read to her as a baby, now at 2 years old she still enjoys it, as does her baby brother. The illustrations are soft and soothing pastel watercolors, and the the text is clever and rhyming for a smooth and easy read. This book is such a favorite and read so much, I don't even need to look at the text anymore to read this book to my little ones.

This has become mine and my daughters new night time book. She likes the cadence of the rhymes and it lends itself to adding my own inflection that she finds humorous. I love the sleepy little smiles it gets from her as she has her night time bottle. The illustrations are full of rich, vibrant colors and lots of animals which I can only imagine catch her attention as well.

All of the animals, from the bold leopard to the shy antelope, snuggle down for the night, ready to sleep, in this charming book. The baby hippo cuddles up close for a big hippo hug while the porcupines curl up together in one spiky ball. This soothing rhyme, illustrated with glowing pastels, is the perfect bedtime story for a child worn out by a busy day.

What a great bedtime story! This book illustrates how different animals cuddle up and snuggle when they go to sleep. Each page has a short rhyming poem. After reading it wil my son, he was ready to snuggle up and go to bed! (What a miracle!) This book is beautifully illustrated and great to get you little ones read to go to bed.

Snuggle Up, Sleepy Ones is great story to read before naptime or bed. It is rich with adjectives provide descriptive imagery. It also includes a variety of different animals that one would find in the wild environment of a savannah or grasslands. This book is great for poetry. It includes many great rhyming words.

This book introduces many different animals and how they fall asleep. There are rhyming throughout the story which makes it good for young students. The illustration is very nice and soft which goes nicely with the animals being sleepy. I would recommend this book to kindergarten to first graders.

I loved the illustrations!!They give the story a realistic feel.
This would be a great book to read before nap/night time.
Being that the animals in the story are all in a safari/desert/african like setting this story coulb be used to illustrate these settings in science/social studies

A favorite of Alex and Benjamin when they were 3 and under. This is one book both would ask for me to read when we sat in the Wishing Well Preschool parking lot, waiting to pick up one of the boys. I love the gentle, comforting prose and the illustrations are beautiful.

All the African animals are snuggling down for the night in this rhyming picture book. Giraffes, zebras, elephants, and more are illustrated in hazy-edged pastels. (Although the orange pages were very bright, and not at all sleep-inducing.) Ages 1-3.

This lovely book has nothing to do with monks or a monastery.

It is about the animals in the jungle getting ready for bed. Gorgeous illustrations and lyrical text make this book a definite part of your bedtime routine.

This book encompasses a lot of things that teachers will need in the classroom. It rhymes, has a repitious pattern, and can be used for science purposes. You can use this for a section on habitats, animal family structures, etc.

This is an engaging book that introduces students to new animals other than pets like cats, dogs, fish, etc. Also has a rhyming component and uses many adjectives which is good for introducing describing words.

This book has nice illustrations of different animals. I did not find the book interesting. The sun is setting and all the animals are snuggling up and getting ready to sleep. Good read aloud before a pre-K nap.
