This is a gritty first person narrative of the Warsaw Uprising. While it is must reading for scholars of this event and of this time in Polish history, it will not appeal to the average reader. I found myself putting it down on numerous occasions due to it being such slow slogging and such terrible translation. The narrative is wooden and I suspect that what happened was that the translator may not a native English speaker. I was glad to finish it and happy to have read it for the details of day ...more
