A large, colorfully illustrated (with line drawings) encyclopedia of an imaginary land, written in an imaginary language (the numbering system for the pages has been decoded, but there's still debate over whether the script throughout the book is meaningful or not)
Outrageous surrealism combined with a clean, orderly structure that thus makes it more disturbing and intriguing than outright surrealism. Beautiful, mind-bending, and worth any price you have to pay for it.

an encyclopedia of a fabricated world grossly more interesting than our own. in a made-up language. gorgeous, with a penchant for quasi-shroomy conceptual linkages (two people having sex turns into a crocodile slithering off a bed); fairly amazing, if you can get your hands on it. i recommend inter-library loan. if you're a jerk, you can keep it and just pay the loss fee; it's really out of print.

Reminiscent of Bosch, Jodorowsky, and, particularly, the animated film Fantastic Planet, this bizarre book depicts a world that is in some ways similar and in other ways vastly different from our own. I wish I could have read the text accompanying the drawings, but it's written in a made-up language that no one has managed to decipher. A fun book to flip through if you enjoy kooky drawings.

Not so much a book as a elaborate, strange universe, complete with its own orthography and freaky alligator-human mating scenarios. I interpret it as a peak into Earth circa the year 12,000 a.d., and I wouldn't doubt that's where Serafini came from. Check your local library for this: apparently it's impossible to find or purchase.

I'm not really sure if this is something I can count as having actually read, but I certainly have looked carefully at every page numerous times.

I've read it to the extent that you can, which is to say that I've stared at it. That activity is an excellent one. Try it.

The weirdest book ever. It is in a made up language and an invented script. Unreadable, but the images--wow.
