I got this for Christmas this year, and read it the very night I got it. Azarello has a knack for the crime stories. I won't even bother you w/a long review of this, as there's only 1 thing that kept this from a 5 star review: I don't like some of the language. Maybe it's naive of me, or maybe it's a limitation of the medium, but a lot of the characters are black and latino, and a lot of the language is spelled out phoenetically for those characters specifically. And it makes them weaker for...more

If I were going recommend someone to start reading 100 Bullets, I would tell them to read this first. Even if they never picked another one up, this one would hold up on it's own. It's a great tale of boy reuniting with his father and becoming a man. However, in terms of the overall 100 Bullets story it serves to show that people aren't what they seem. There's an issue in the second volume you should read (and for some reason they didn't include here) before reading this volume. It isn't th...more

Not my favorite story in the 100 Bullets mythos. As the tale unfolds, it almost seems like another one-off, but as you learn more about Loop Hughes and his father Curtis (a former Minuteman with links to Graves), you see flashes of what Graves is trying to do now (a la Dizzy from Vol 1). However, Loop has never been a totally interesting character to me, and his story is not particularly compelling in this or later volumes.

They didn't have the second volume at the bookstore, so I bought Volume 3. I think I missed a few things, but still really good. I'm surprised this series doesn't get more attention.

Reprints 100 Bullets #15-19. Introduces Loop and tells the story of his reintroduction to his father. The dialogue is horrible, but the story is alright. Nice twist ending.

Part of the 100 Bullets series, one can still read this as a stand alone and enjoy it. Loved the artwork, and the strong urban tale of the relationship between a father and a son.

It's great that Azzarello can alternate between the "main" narrative and the individual narratives that popup along the way. This is compelling noir.
