Katrina Strauss’ m/m books are auto-buys for me and I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of this book. I’m generally on the fence about May to December romances as I’ve read my fair share of both great and poor examples. This time the theme worked really well and I was left feeling optimistic about the relationship between Tony and Josh.

Unable to sleep, middle-aged Tony ventures into a diner he hasn’t visited in years, not since his mis-spent youth. Whilst re-living the past, his eye is caught

Wonderful romance between 45 year old Tony and 22 year old Josh. There's no great angst or action/adventure, no big misunderstanding. There is some conflict as Tony experiences some worries regarding the age difference and what life will be like in the future. But mostly we get to watch love grow. It's beautifully written, with descriptive settings that make you feel you're right there. Secondary characters are included with just enough presence to allow us to know them, but they don't overwhelm ...more

I don't think I can add anything substansial since there are already so many reviews that similar to my taking this story. Not a huge May/December romance but from the story, it is clear that the young artist, Josh (who is named for U2's album, Joshua Tree), has an old soul and more mature to his 21-years-old of age. That is why he feels comfortable to the older landscaper, Tony.

It's wonderful, sweet (love the part where they go to the zoo or watching the sunrise/sunset), with no strong

I'm going to be lazy and say see the other reviews (specifically Jenre's and Val's). My reaction is a mixture of the two reviews. I love the lyrical writing and wonderful attention to a May/December romance. Strauss knows how to write a wonderful story and this is no exception. My only regret is that there isn't enough tension in the story. There is mild conflict due to the age difference, once again very well handled and to the point I didn't think there was a question they'd make up. So the st ...more

Boring. - Usually I like may/december romances but Sonoran Heat wasn`t my
thing. The age difference was the sole-conflict(the younger man has to be "much older" than 21,the older man "much younger" than 45 to make such a relationship work? - It bugged me to no end.)
The characters were bland and the sex scenes were lame and mostly gratuitous.
To be fair - according to other reviews for this book it`s apparently very much personal taste.

This book is everything I love about m/m romance. A simple story with great characters who just want to be together. Well written, not overly shmaltzy or sugary, but very romantic and satisfying. The plot is understated and allows the characters and the romance to shine. Loved it!

This was a sweet, easy read. There was no real angst or conflict, except maybe the 20+ age difference between the two MC's, but that was dealt with well.
I was in the mood for a nice, normal couple without too much drama, and this book fit the bill.

For some reason this book'd stayed on my reader for almost a year before I started it and damn I'm now so sorry for the lost time :) Because it's amazing story! I'm a huge fan of age gap and here it was done absolutely beautiful, I think. Tony's insecurities and reflections were spot on and I really loved Josh - he seems exactly the type, who would be interested in long and serious relationship with the older man, Ms Strauss really nailed it. Also I'm not a fan of super angsty stories, so I for ...more

I liked the concept of this book a lot - the slow build of the relationship and feelings, the simplicity of the sex scenes (still hot but not overly graphic or drawn out), the beautiful descriptions of the scenery. The characters were well outlined and I could picture them in my head soon after they appeared. I liked the older vs younger relationship, the baggage Tony was trying to get over and Josh's eager youthfulness. Great sweet read.

Nice story although I spent most of the book hung up on their age difference. I really enjoy May/December stories but up to a certain point. Once the age difference gets to about 15 years I start thinking of their future and remembering my aunt whose husband died when she was just 50. He was almost 75 at the time. I just find it hard to get over the gap and I know it's a personal reaction.

It's well-written though and aside from the age gap I enjoyed the story.

Beautiful love story between the Old Man and Pretty Boy. Not angst filled and no love at first sight. It delved a bit into the challenges of having a 24 year age difference but basically a story about building a relationship.

Both men's personalities came thru in the writing and you could see how they complimented each other.

The Sonoran is "a desert both rugged and lush at once with its own raw and often unappreciated beauty". Tony Roberts is a man who cares for the beauty that exists in the Sonoran - with his bare hands he molds its beauty, and tames it both. But at the age of forty-five, just getting over the end of a long term relationship, what does he have to offer a beautiful young man less than half his age? And what makes him want to find out?

The ballad of Richard and Tony ended not with a bang, but a whimpe

Sonoran Heat is a literal and figurative change of pace for author Katrina Strauss. If her other m/m works are yummy, exciting, fizzy melon sodas, Sonoran Heat is sensuous, smooth, sweet hot cocoa. Different, but equally enjoyable!

As I have come to expect from this author, the characters in Sonoran Heat are very well developed and thoroughly likable. Josh is a talented, level headed, twenty-something waiter and art student. Tony is a successful small business owner and all around middle-aged ho

The beginning of this story definitely tries to grab you – almost a bit too fiercely. However, I was intrigued enough to continue reading and pleased to find that the beginning scene of a very young trio, was not a main story plot – but the background for the true love story. It did take me some time to be ok with the age difference between the main characters, which was also a theme of the stor

Well the usual long Amber Allure blurb tells it all. Tony is 45 and his lover of 18 years has left him to “find himself”. A late night trip down memory lane at a diner has him meeting Josh, a young waiter. He knows he’s an old fool but Josh invites him to his art opening and they end up back at Tony’s place afterward. Tony is sure this is just a fling and that Josh couldn’t be interested in him, but as time passes, they become closer and Josh is not your normal 21 year old college student. He li ...more

This is a story about Josh and Tony. Josh is a 21 year old college student, artist, and working his way through at a diner to help pay for it. Josh isn't your typical 21 year old. He hates club music (revoke his gay card now..ha), hates dance clubs, and just enjoys peace and quiet. He doesn't mind just sitting around the house being domestic. Josh has his priorities straight and will do anything to get to his goals. He wasn't expecting Tony to walk into his diner late one night.

Tony is a 45 year

3.5 stars rounding up to 4.0 stars.

The conflict at the end seemed to be thrown on just for the sake of conflict, wasn't developed or made real. And the resolution was expected. The two characters are well-drawn, though I wonder how many guys doing what is essentially yard work are as well off as Tony is. I'm usually quite hesitant about reading a May-December romance, but this one worked pretty well, while skirting some of the real problems of such a relationship. I skipped a few sex scenes -- t

The desert views make one feel like is in it and more.I couldn't stop myself of having a nice cup of joe when reading this rich story full of love and beauty. Love in 21 century. A lovely story with two very likeable main characters. I like to read about love stories between men with a considerable age gap, but I'm often left not satisfied. It was not the case with this story. The author took the time to slowly develop the feelings betweent the two character and also treated with care and attention the issues that can easily arise when two partners are not close in age. The story and problems the two characters had to face were believable and well written. The pace was s ...more

4.5 stars. I normally save 5 stars for when I really feel invested in the characters and their story (plus it needs to be well-written, of course), and I didn't really get that as much this time. I will say it was executed and written well though, even if it didn't have as much tension as would have liked. I don't always like May-December romances, but this one worked very well for me. The conflict present due to their age was handled well and seemed very authentic. The conflict was pretty mild, ...more

There is a lot to love about this book, from the two leads and a cast of wonderful secondary characters to the magnificent setting, which is practically a character itself. The conflict is predictable, but it's also the one to be expected in a book with a subject of the age difference between the partners. Bottom line, I absolutely loved this book and I will definitely be reading this author again.

This was more a 4.5 for me. I really enjoyed the overall story. There wasn't the huge conflict that I am use to seeing. The characters were well developed and the plot flowed smoothly. I didn't give this story a 5 star rating because there wasn't a wow that I like to see in a 5 star. I also didn't see much story outside of the central characters.

This story was easy to read and I liked it. It is not a long drawn-out saga. It is a quick burn and it moves pretty fast (well it has to because it's not too long of a book) and I found myself pretty entertained. I wasn't super enthralled or overwhelmed by the characters, but I liked them well enough and I was routing for them the whole time.

Wow, I like this easy-reading story. Very sweet even lack of exciting elements, nothing dramatic at the end. I think that's suits the two main characters. Sex scenes kind of boring though, kind of cliche and a tad to long.

A slow moving, simplistic, low-to-no angst, May to December romance with a HEA. I really didn't care for the art and landscaping conversations/musings. It was a little better than okay, but not by much~
