Mrs. Teaberry has a knack for fixing Mr. Putter's problems. The foursome get through many adventures side by side. Cynthia Rylant brings these adventures and close friendships alive.

Fell in love with this book when I was in the fourth grade and my mom purchased it for me at the school bookfair. Initially I was jus...more

Possibly one of the best beginner reader books ever written. I love the illustrations, and creative concepts used by Mr. Putter to get pears out of his tree.

A great little story for sharing in the library/classroom. Mr. Putter has cranky knees, and cranky legs. He isn't getting any younger. This character gives children the opportunity to see the elderly, how they age and adapt in a very accessible, fun story. Tabby is a great companion. She is not a talking cat, and in fact old as well. However the author shares her thoughts with us which adds a nice touch to the story. This is the first of this series I have read, but I will go back for more!

While I don't feel it is as strong as some of the other "Mr Putter and Tabby" books I've read, it's still a delightful read and full of humor. Mr. Putter so desperately wants to eat some pears, but finds his legs are too "cranky" to get up the ladder to pick them anymore. He is getting so old. This bothers him at first, until he remembers a fun toy from his childhood that helps him get the apples out of the tree--and helps him rediscover that one can be forever young at heart!

Omigoodness, they made more of these books. I mean after this one. I knew about this one. I read it as soon as I found out about it. I enjoyed it similarly as much as I enjoyed the first one. Oh, Mr. Putter and Tabby, you're a couple of pranksters. Adorable, old, well-illustrated, charming little pranksters.

It kind of ruined these books for me when I discovered that there was another series that's essentially the same story, but with a dog. It's called "Margie and Mudge" or something*. I didn't...more

The adventures of an arthritic old man and his old cat. It's charmingly funny. My son gets a huge kick out of them. The old man goes outside to pick pears, but finds he can't climb the ladder because he has "cranky" legs. So he decides to make a slingshot using elastic and a stick, and shots apples at the pear tree. But soon he's distracted by having so much fun with the sling shot, that he shoots away every apple from his yard for hours until he's out of apples. So the next day his old lady nei...more

This has been by far the kids' favourite Mr. Putter Tabby book yet. They laugh out loud through-out (ZING!!!!) and have requested it to be read multiple times.

It is a bit of a departure from the usual formula, in that Zeke doesn't have a role, and Mrs. Teaberry is only in the final chapter, but spending this fun day with one of our favourite old people was pleasant.

This is another fun story in the "Mr. Putter and Tabby" series. We really enjoy Cynthia Rylant's stories and this does not disappoint. It's a funny tale and shows the friendliness between neighbors, although I wouldn't recommend following Mr. Putter's example in this book.

One of my favorite Mr. Putter stories for two reasons: haven't we all gotten distracted and lost sight of our original purpose sometimes? And don't we all need to think creatively to solve problems? My K students all leave saying, "Zing!"

Excellent series, fabulous illustrations. More under Mr. Putter & Tabby Pour the Tea.

One of our favorites; I bought Fiona pear butter after the pear jam in this story--and gave the book and pear preserves to her for her birthday. Excellent imagery. Also a lovely audio book if your library has it.

The joke is so simple, but I found this book quite funny. My son has moved on to Mr Putter and Tabby from Henry and Mudge via Annie and Snowball. We've been having a fine time with Ms. Rylant's books.

Callie and I love Mr. Putter and Tabby! We first discovered Cynthia's work with a great book - Poppleton Everyday and have been hooked every since with everything she writes. She is very funny!

This book is okay.

The illustrations are colourful and interesting. The story has repetitions which makes it easy for children to follow, especially if you are doing Shared Book Approach.

This is my favorite Mr. Putter book I've read with my 7-year old so far. But we get a kick out of all of them. I would recommend these books to any beginning reader or animal lover.

This combination is delightful with Mr. Putter and his cat and the neighbor and her dog. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

This was a fun book and as I read it aloud I hear my husband start laughing from the kitchen. We liked this one!

I would give all the Mr. Putter books ten stars if I could! Hands down my favorite books to read with the kids.

Another great easy reading chapter book by Cynthia Rylant. Great for writing because of the adjectives. Start with kindergarten.

MCL. I liked when he zinged the apples. And Mr. Putter thinks that if he zings the pears he will get pear jelly.

I never get tired of reading these to my children. Cynthia Rylant is my favorite children's book author.

I like when they got a slingshot and put an apple in and then shot the apple right over the pear tree, over his house, over the apple bush, into his neighbor's place, where it was so funny that time. She made apple pie and apple cider with cinnamon sticks in it. Well, I like when he did it all night and all day and he had cranky legs on the ladder. That's why he used a slingshot. Well, I like when he got an apple, then SHOT off the pears from the pear tree. And the pears landed in his neighbor's...more
