Mara, the daughter of an Irish clansman, was raised to believe the men of the North are heathens - murderous pagans without a moral bone in their bodies. Despite warnings of the Northmen's raids, and the growing threat of another incursion, Mara is continually drawn to her favorite place - the River Shannon. A hauntingly beautiful tale that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Dægan, a great warrior and chieftain, has decided it is time to settle down. Not only will this appease his mother, but if he finds an Irish bride this will appease the truce he has with an Irish king thereby keeping the land obtained for his people to live on. Dægan has fought in many wars, but he’s never fought for the love and safety of one woman. His patience, bravery, skills, faith, and heart will all be tested, but

AUTHOR: Any “outstanding” historical fiction author always does their research. Author Renee Vincent did a superb job! She knows how to play on emotions and you “will” become a part of the book. She does not hit you with one (1) perilous situation, she keeps it coming and coming and coming. You cannot possibly put the book down.

Book #1 of the Emerald Isle Trilogy. 10th Century. Northmen (Scandinavians) have started settling in Ireland. Daegan is known as a Northman (possibly Norseman)

Honesty . . . Right?

That’s what one looks for in a review. Since honesty is what we are giving here, it’s safe to say that some reviews are much easier to write than others. So, still on my honesty kick here . . . I want to say, this review is NOT going to be an easy one to write.

Where to begin (taps chin).

I liked a lot of things about this book, and I would give it a solid 3.5 stars. The descriptions of the beauty of Ireland were fantastic, as well as the relationships between the Irish and the Viking invaders. The battle scenes toward the end were wonderfully descriptive, definitely some of the better ones I've read, and that's saying a lot because I love books about medieval warfare. That being said, the romance in this book was very simplistic to me, like romance lite. I didn't really feel the ...more

In a word: WOW.

I stumbled upon Renee Vincent quite by accident online, and after discovering she was a fellow Kentucky gal AND wrote historical romance, I had to purchase the first two books in her Emerald Isle Trilogy. It took a while for me to finally get to Book One in my reading list, and I'm so glad I did.

It had been a while since I'd read a historical romance, especially one set in 10th century Ireland. I can't claim to

I’ve always loved the familiar images of Ireland – the rolling greens, the castles, the fog and cliffs and lore – but I’ve never been there. Or I hadn’t, that is, until I picked up a copy of Renee Vincent’s RÆLIKSEN. From the first page, one thing was abundantly clear.

You don’t read RÆLIKSEN. You experience it.

Renee Vincent’s portrayal of 10th century Ireland is nothing short of stunning, but it’s the depth of the characterization that is so vivid, so enchanting. Dægan Ræliksen and the lovely Ma

The powerful and moving love story of Daegan Raeliksen and his Lady Mara will resonate long after the last page is read. This is historical romantic fiction at its best, written by an author inspired by the legends and lure of ancient Ireland and Norway. Renee Vincent has brought to life a turbulent time in history when cultures collided and to the victor went the spoils! Only a love story as intense as "Raeliksen" could match the true passions and intrigue of tumultuous Ireland of Olde! Daegan ...more

"I will wait for you. Forever and a day. I will wait for you."

Unique, Well-Told Viking Tale...But get the sequel for the end!

I love a good Viking story and sadly, too many publishers these days want only Regency or Victorian romances. But the Viking tales still call to me and I’m glad they are still being written. Here’s a new author who is giving us great stories. This one is superb.

Renee Vincent writes with lyrical prose. It's truly beautiful. And she tells a good tale with attention to historic detail that will satisfy lovers of historical romance. This

OMG I have just finished reading RAELIKSEN, first book of the Emerald Isle Trilogy written by Renee Vincent. When I read this touching story, I cried! I was overwhelmed with emotions! Lots of beautiful flowing words to describe the love that shared her two main characters. Ms. Vincent created a powerful love story combining Ireland and Norway's culture and ancient history. I wanted to take a break and read for FUN... Every once in a while I like to go off the beaten path from all the reads I have promised to read and just grab something. I know Renee Vincent is not a new author, but she is new to me. After a little Twitter back and forth, I went to her website and checked out the blurbs for her historical series and decided I would give one a try. Only thing is, after reading the first one, Raeliksen and being left a crying mess, I had to jump right into Mac Liam

This is the first story of a trilogy and I read all three. This story takes place during the Viking invasions of Ireland and Mara, daughter of an ancient Irish chieftain, is saved from marauding invaders by Draegon who had come to Ireland in search of a wife. Himself, a Norseman, it was unlikely that they would end up together but through many life-threatening events they did. The story draws you in, keeps you there with its sweeping detail, its emotional content and believable characters. It be ...more

What a well written story! I enjoyed this novel from beginning to end. I thought the story moved a long at a decent pace and it had a little bit of everything. Though I'm a bit heartbroken over the ending, and it will take me awhile to try and move on to book two in the series, I would definitely add this to my bookshelf. Renee Vincent has done a fabulous job!

A passionate work of historical fiction and a gripping love story set in 916 AD where the tensions between the Irish and Scandinavian foreigners from the North serve as a tumultuous backdrop. By choice and perhaps by providence Daegon Raeliksen, a sea merchant and Northman, spys an Irish beauty down by the River Shannon and is determined to make the woman his wife. Their first interaction is far from what he planned when the beauty turns out to be as fierce as she is lovely. Daegon has little ti

This book gripped me from the very first page, and I can not say that about very many others.

It starts at the Shannon river in Ireland where a handsome viking is secretly watching the object of his affection. He has his whole life planned before him and she is to be his wife, yet he has yet to introduce himself. How primitive, but intriguing. His name is Dægan Ræliksen and he will from this day forth be carried in my heart and I know already how hard it will be for me to find another character

Well, this is embarrassing! I was happily reading it when my free kindle decided my time was up and it took it away! I was half way and totally absorbed in it once I found the time. The characters were believable and easy to imagine. I truly felt for both main characters and wanted to see how it ended for them. I will try and get this again to finish the story, but felt the author deserved a rating now.

I am not a Romance reader, but thanks to Renee Vincent, I won't automatically write- off HISTORICAL romance novels. This novel was extremely well researched and so detail- rich it is easy to picture oneself living in Ireland at the time of Norse occupation. I highly recommend it!

Do not pick this up if you're looking for HEA. It depressed me so bad I couldn't even bring myself to read the next book in the series. I will say it's relatively well-written and engaging, but once the ending hit, I didn't understand why I'd spent all that time on it.
