I like the reader (Scott Brick, who also read The Wish List), so enjoyed the book, despite its inconsistencies. Kate Ramsey knew nothing that could help the investigators. Then she knew a little. Then within minutes she knew a lot. She couldn't conceive of her mother having an affair with Thorston (spelling?), yet she knew they were engaged eight years later. Continuity was lacking. Joan thinks about a Trojan horse just before she's blindsided by one? Katy says she knew of nothing in her dad's p...more

This one was a great beginning to a short series. I loved Maxwell and King. Kinda has a slightly cheesy twist but still way worth reading.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a pretty quick read that grabbed my attention right from the beginning. If you like Vince Flynn, you'll enjoy these books as well. It "is the tale of two disgraced Secret Service agents racing against time to find the common thread that connects a series of assassinations and abductions." I loved the chemistry between the main characters. And this was a great plot with so many twists and turns that you were always guessing how it was possibly all...more

David Baldacci is one of my favorite authors. His novels always keep you on the edge of your seat. They have something for everyone who loves a good "whodonit" - awesome characters, suspense, mystery, unexpected twists, and even sometimes a little romance.

I read Split Second while staying with my dad at the hospital when he had surgery a few years ago. It's a good thing that I didn't really have anything to do, because I couldn't put this book down. It was great - start to...more

This was OK. Not one of my favorites. Sean King is a former Secret Service agent who had someone die on his watch. Michelle is a Secret Service Agent who just recently had someone kidnapped on her watch. When an employee of Sean’s is found dead in his office, Sean and Michelle come together to try and solve and intricate mystery of deceit, blackmail and murder. This book kept my interest and the red herring definitely swam through out the pages. I just thought the resolution was a little ...more

A fitting title as that is how long it took me to read this one, I could not put it down. Normally I have these types of books figured out early but this one threw me for a bit of a loop on the why and all the connections. A complex and interesting action/thriller about some secret service agents and a bunch of death's/assassinations/kidnappings...good book and I am already on to the next in the series (although its not holding my attention nearly as well as this one did)

I enjoyed this book, wasn't really expecting much for some reason but have to say was very pleasently surprised. It's a really fast paced thriller with a very intricate & clever plot around 2 cases of the sercet service looking after current & historic Presidential candidates, the two lead characters King & Maxwell are likeable & looks like the start of a series involving the pair.

This book started off great, and I liked the main characters as individuals, but it really lost steam as it headed toward its conclusion. By the end, I really didn't care whodunnit; it was all just very convoluted and seemed to come out of nowhere, as though the author had gotten bored and just wanted to finish the book. I think I'll take a rest from reading Baldacci for a while.

I picked this up at a flea market, because I had read "The Winner" and this one sounded promising as well. The story was fast-paced wth good timing that kept you turning pages. A couple small points in the 'wrap-up' were disappointing for me (ie. the weak reason for killing the WITSEC) but, overall, the story was interesting and tense...just what a good crime novel should be.

Michelle Maxwell bucked the odds to get a coveted Secret Service job - guarding a presidential candidate. She made a split second decision and her candidate was snatched. She turned to Sean King who's Secret Service job was ended when his attention was diverted for a split second and his candidate was shot to death. Baldacci can flat tell a story and this one is one of his best.

picked this one up from a little old lady at a yard sale a week ago. It has a lots of plot twists and turns which can be overwhelming to keep up with and I sometimes had trouble keeping all the characters straight. It got pleasantly suspenseful near the end: I had to stop my husband from talking to me so I could get through the last chapter.

This book was really, really good. It's a government mystery that kind of reminded me of Mary Higgins Clark's writing style (a bunch of options for the bad guy, but you don't find out who it really is until the very end) except that there was no damsel in distress. :) It had me guessing until the very end how everything tied together.

I have read quite a few of Mr. Baldacci's books and have really enjoyed them all. I actually read the Hour Game before Split Second. I don't know how I did it I just did. I enjoyed them both immensely. I also enjoyed the Camel Club but have not yet gotten to the Collectors. Overall I think he writes well and keeps the interest piqued.

recommends it for: Anyone with a guilty passion for cheap espionage novels
Two former Secret-Service agents join forces to uncover the mastermind behind the assassination of one, and kidnapping of another presidential candidate.

A fun, if not challenging read; plus everytime you buy a book by David Baldacci, part of the proceeds go to support his literacy foundation, so it's a win-win proposition.

another good beach book. I have read a few david baldacci books this summer, all were hard to put down. This book had the same main characters from Hour Game, which I liked better then Split Second. Split Second was good, but the plot included a serial killer so it got a little too violent and far-fetched for me.

I really enjoyed this book. What would happen if a secret service agent let his eyes wander for the briefest of seconds? His whole life changed in that minusscule period! But why did it happen? He hooks up with one of his former teammates and looks into the old case? Now he has someone frantically on his tail!

I found this to be a good book. I have several by the author and really like how he writes. I had one that I didn't read as it had WAY too many characters in it, but this one was good.
Put a disgraced ex-secret service agent with a current one who loses her "charge", throw in murder and mayhem and you have a great book!

This could be my favorite Baldacci. I would recommend anyone start with this one because this is where you are first introduced to Sean King who is in a lot of DBs books. Once again I don't remember what the content is so be causious if you are easily offended. Some of his books can be a little racey (-:

I read this after reading the 2nd book in the trilogy by mistake, so I was backtracking. I didn't think this was as gripping as 'Hour Game' however I still enjoyed it. David Baldacci is very good at creating suspense, and the many twists in the story kept me interested. Good if you like fast paced thrillers
