Absolutely love this series. I love the tips on teas and discussion of the teas and the stories are wonderful. The end of this mystery cought me by surprise - never saw it coming, altho I had a twinge or two I disregarded because it seemed so unlikely for the train of events. Theo, as usual, is very busy and it is at an event that she is catering that Duke Wilkes is killed. Pookie, Duke's widow, asks Theo to help in finding who killed him. Detective Tidwell keeps prompting her to butt out and qu...more
"Fascinating," declared Theodosia Browning as her quizzical blue eyes roved about the hexagon-shaped room. Packed with antique medical instruments, colorful jars, and old anatomical charts, the tucked-away alcove must have been the old surgical suite back when this Victorian-style Charleston home had been a hospital almost a century and a half ago, Theodosia decided. Its builder and owner had made a fortune in early pharmaceuticals and patent drugs. Because, lord, have mercy, she told herself, t...more
This is book 7 in the tea shop mysteries series. It was cute but it was a little slow for my tastes. I don't like my cozy mysteries to drag, and this one felt that way to me. It was almost like the mystery took a back burner to the descriptions of food and tea. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Most of the time Theo is having a hard time finding clues and by the time she thinks she knows who might have done it, well, the book is nearly finished. Then there was the matter of another body...more

Theodosia Browning and the Indigo Tea Shop gang are enjoying a candlelight concert at the Augustus Chait House, thrown by their friend Delaine Dish in an effort to raise money for the home's restoration, when tragedy strikes. They're friend, octogenarian Duke Wilkes, is murdered, stabbed in the throat. Everyone is stunned, no one more so than Duke's widow, Pookie, who enlists Theo to help uncover Duke's killer and bring him or her to justice. Will Theo be able to keep her promise to Pookie, or w...more

marked it as gave-up
I only got through 3 chapters. I think there were two problems. First, without having read the previous six books I didn't know the characters. The way they were introduced just didn't make me particularly care about them or want to know more.
Second, I have no interest in china or silverware patterns or tea towels. And I don't drink tea. A simple tea primer, as might appear in the first book, would likely be interesting to me. Wine tasting like descriptions of a dozen different varieties, howev...more

Theodosia Browning owns the Indigo Tea Shop in Charleston, South Carolina and is doing refreshments for the Candlelight Concert to raise money to restore a Victorian home when one of the guest is murdered. The story takes us around Charleston and the low country as Theodosia and her staff Halley Parker the shops cook and Drayton Conneley the shops tea blender help solve the mystery. I enjoyed the story and plan to read more of the series. Recipes are included at the end of the book.

The rating of 1 star isn't really fair; I didn't actually finish the book. In fact, I've only read one sentence. I was at the library looking for a new mystery. The title intrigued me and I saw that Laura Childs was listed as a "national bestselling author". It sounds promising, doesn't it?
As usual when choosing whether or not to read a book, I read the first sentence:
"Theodosia"? Oh my!

A fine cozy read about this woman who owns a tea shop in atmospheric Charleston, and snoops around to solve the murder of a friend's husband. Lots of delicious tea descriptions and scrumptious southern eats. Eventually she stumbles on an illegal import scheme of animals and birds involving the murderers.
This is pretty lightweight but just enough mystery and mayhem for me as I don't like grisly mad serial killer stories. This type of story sounds more realistic to me.

Another mystery solved by Theodosia, owner of the Indigo Tea Shop in Charleston, South Carolina. Descriptions of the beautiful historic mansions made me want to visit Charleston. The desciptions of the teas made me want to branch out from my usual peppermint and try some of the described teas. The mystery kept me intrigued as I kept changing my mind about "who done it" as more clues and facts were discovered. I absolutely love the Tea Shop Mystery series. A great read for whn you just want to re...more
As you can see I'm on a roll with the Laura Childs Mysteries
Blood Orange is about a house that was recently donated to the Heritage Society and during a benefit at the house to raise money for it's restoration one of the attendees is murdered---so many people to suspect, once again Theo is right in the middle of the investigation-really big twist ending on this one.

This one could be nickname : Theo and Delaine excellent adventure. It's a fun romp. Houses with secret rooms, Earl Grey missing, scams and fraud abound. Parker Scully makes his move. Lots of nice tea scenes and lots of yummy recipes from Haley. A solid plot that doesn't wander.
Another good addition to the series.

I do really enjoy this series. Theo and her friends are always getting into the most interesting situations and most of them don't seem all that incredible! This time a long time friend and Civil War buff is killed while Theo and her group are serving tea. His wife asks Theo to "help" the police and, of course, Theo can't help but get involved.
Plenty of twists and turns in this one and with them lots of red herrings are thrown the readers way. I had a brief moment of "I wonder if either of those...more

I'm definitely a fan. I like any cozy mystery that combines murder and tea--plus recipes and everything! It's a nerdy old lady's dream! I'd read all of these books for sure.

I'm getting slightly annoyed with Theo. She has this attitude that she's the only one who can solve the crimes, and she does things like talk to suspects and contaminate crime scenes. She deserves to get shot and beat up for taking these stupid risks. If I were Tidwell, I'd put her in jail for obstruction.
I really enjoy the Tea Shop mystery series. They are just nice light mysteries about the owner of a tea shop who always gets involved in murders. The comings and goings of the tea shop are a major part of the book and dishes from the book are also included in the book. I would highly recommend these books.
Another in the Tea Shop Mystery series. When social darling Delaine Dish throws a lavish benefit for the restoration of a run-downVictorian home, Theodosia Browning donates tea and treats from her Indigo Tea Shop. But the grand unveiling of Theo's spread proves a gruesome scene when a beloved local politico falls dead with a jagged piece of metal in his neck. Anyone at the event could be the culprit, but the police have few leads -- and no suspects. Try as she might, Theodosia can't help but won...more

A cozy, fast little mystery. Wasn't my favorite but I did leave with a renewed interest in tea so there's that....
