This is probably the hardest review I’ve had to write because I do not have anything positive to say about this story. So I’m going to start with letting you know how this is truly a personal opinion and has nothing to do with the author’s talent or the quality of the book. All I can say is what I disliked about it and let other readers form their own opinion.

The story starts in a confusing way and pretty

Samms is a pretty amazing author and I wish there was more buzz for her exceptional writing. I picked this up immediately and got an incredibly story that kind of leaves me speechless. It’s not an easy story and there is cruelty, torture, and pain but this is offset by hope, love, and forgiveness, which together delivers a stunning story.

The setting is a post-apocalyptic world where humans have given up faith and turned to torturing and killing angels as an outlet for their rage. In a world whe

It's pretty different than other stories by Ms. Samms that I have read. This one sets in some sort of post-Apocalyptic world, where people no longer have faith, and they start to hunt and kill Angels. In this world, a solitary priest, is probably the only one left with faith to this heavenly being. His faith helps two Angels that are dying and at the same time brings him into the power of love.

I think the world created is sinister but also hopeful (there is one character, a little girl, that giv

I am really on the fence about what to write about this. On the one hand, the prose is beautiful. On the other the story itself is really difficult. I'm not sure I have any idea what the author was trying to say with the piece. I really think I'm going to have to read it again to figure out what I'm supposed to take away from it. It's very sad and frustrating and confusing a lot of the time. I felt lost a lot while reading it. There are beautiful and hopeful moments as well.

I'm not sure what el

I think 3 stars is generous with this one. I spent most of the story wondering what the hell was going on. Of course, that's just my opinion. It was very lyrical and read more like poetry which is not necessarily a good thing for me. I did manage to get the meaning of the story and it ended up being a fairly decent read.

Wow. Powerful, unbearably sad, yet still offering hope in the end. Beautifully written.

I will admit to disappointment and frustration with this short story. I felt that it had such potential to be a lovely story - and it was, actually - but the execution was poor. This story was written in the 1st person POV of a priest who believes in Angels in this somewhat post-apocalyptic setting. He alone, it seems, in a world that seemed to be gray, cold, and filled with violence, especially toward these pure, good Angels, is a good guy.

As I read, amidst my confusion and building fru

In a not-so-distant future, humanity has lapsed from faith, which rendered the angels pointless. Now they’re wandering aimlessly among the humans who have turned to hunt and kill those they have once worshipped. In an unnamed wintery city, a lone priest guards his old church and its cemetery in which his brother was buried ten years ago . The priest has lost everything – his brother to the drugs, his lover to a murder, his purpose in life to the lack of faith. The only thing that’s left to him i ...more

A beautiful, short piece of lyrical writing.
Jamie Samms shows great depth of emotion set down without overdramatic language.
I loved the whole thing. It might be short, but it's well worth the cost.

With most of the hours in the day taken up by a part time job and the full time occupation of raising and schooling two kids, writing is somewhat of an indulgence, but it's the indulgences that keep us sane, right? When not otherwise occupied, like most writers, reading is my relaxation method of choice, and you can find my reviews at and Dark Diva Reviews to let you know what I lik ...more
