First Blood (GORGON #2)
by
Aleksandr Voinov (Goodreads Author),
Barbara Sheridan (Goodreads Author)
On their last assignment, GORGON agents Chris Gibson and his partner John Soong protected Russian mob lawyer Andrei Voronin rather than killing him. They covered Andrei's tracks, forged a shaky relationship, and their international intelligence and paramilitary group staged Andrei's death and took him into the fold. Nikita Kazakov, a Russian cop who had used Andrei as a so...more

A great read! I've been looking forward to this one since I read Clean Slate, and I wasn't disappointed. Aleks never fails to sucks me in no matter what the subject matter—he's far too crafty with words for his own good—and Ms. Sheridan is swiftly becoming a favorite as well. As much as I enjoyed the threesome dynamic in Clean Slate, I loved watching Chris find someone (as well as something) he needed. Despite my intentions to draw out the pleasure, I devoured the book in a day.
Amazing story, amazing characters. Best couple Chris/Nikita ever. Love their snarky interchanges. This had every thing that pushes my buttons, good story, good dialogue, great sex, and espionage. Who, I ask could ask for anything more?
"This is mine. This. All of it, all of him."
That says it all.

First Blood is a sort of sequel to Clean Slate, but I don’t really think it’s necessary to have read the first book. Clean Slate ends with the three heroes in a ménage relationship, one which I felt was a little forced. At the beginning of First Blood, Chris has been separated from John and Andrei and is on a mission for GORGON in London. The time apart has given him an opportunity to consider their relationship, especially the way that John and Andrei have a closeness that he doesn’t seem to fe...more
Oh wow. First time I enjoy a book with a D/s theme. Says something about the authors.
Sunshine, Shadow, and Darkness- Thoughts on Reading Voinov's First Blood
I am currently enamoured of the sunrise, rising early each morning to watch dawn break over the world, through the forest, chasing shadows as it comes. The dawn inspires me, it puts life in persepctive, and it brings peace.
But that is not to say I haven't spent my share of time watching the sunset on sandy beaches, chasing the horizon through hills and pastures, watching shadows creep into the world and darkness cloak it a...more

GORGON special ops agent and wise-ass extraordinaire Chris Gibson is back with a vengeance in this fantastic sequel to Clean Slate, revealing that he is, as was suspected, one intriguing character. First Blood is Chris’ story all the way, providing the reader with plenty of intrigue, suspense, and, oh yeah, some e-reader melting sex.
Cruising for action, Chris finds a bit more than he’d bargained for when he encounters the dangerous, sexy, and mysterious Russian, Nikita Kazakov. What C...more

hot damn!
how come all these russians are so bloody hot!?!!!
Now this is the main course of Gorgon: Chris and Nikita. Can I get a little Nikita on the side please? pretty pouty please? that man is scorching hot, sexy as hell, strong and silent and soooooo tender..oh my god. If there is a hero-type I like, it's this one.
But I kept picturing him like a real brute...and yet he's such a good man. I swear Aleksandr Voinov is rocking my world. What is it about his writing that is so powerfull and strai...more

I absolutely LOVED this book. It was gripping from the beginning to the end. The plot was fantastic. The two main characters, Chris and Nikita, play a game of sexual dominance/submission with a violent edge throughout the story. The sex scenes are scorching hot. My only complaint is the book ended, leaving me wanting more.

Wow, I loved this book even though it was a bit close to my comfort zone in terms of violence, moral ambiguity and BDSM. The exploration by Chris and Nikyta of their sexual boundaries and the strong sexual tension throughout the book made it a great read. Enough solid plot and action to keep it working for me on all levels. For two such strong alpha male characters the touches of vulnerability and the shifts in the balance of power between the two was beautifully portrayed. How I hope there will...more

4.5 stars.
Why not 5? At one point, I think it was at the 75%, there was a sex scene that wasn't really meaningful in my opinion, not as much as the previous ones. It seemed a bit rushed, a series of actions which lacked the intimate, passionate participation of the protagonists. It ripped me out of the story too much and it took me a little while to go back to the atmosphere that the authors had set until that moment.

Chris has been feeling more and more like a third wheel in between John Soong and Andrei Voronin. He's been cruising gyms and bars looking for hook-ups, and one finds him. Nikita (or as Chris calls him, "Nicky") had promised protection to Andrei only to find out that Zaitsev hired Chris to kill him. Nikita had never had anyone die on his watch, and he was determined to kill Chris. Only Chris was nothing like Nikita expected, and the attraction was instant and explosive.

This is book 2 in the GORGON series. In this story we revisit Chris Gibson who we last saw as the third in a partnership/threesome. Chris is an American in the secret organization based in Switzerland and operating throughout Europe. Now Chris seems to be searching for something all his own and that's where we meet Nikita. Nikita is trying to find the man he believes responsible for killing one of his contacts and that's how he & Chris intersect. When they meet it's part interrogation and pa...more

Very hot.
Makes me think about my daily dose of rush hour driving: "With all their aggressive driving, Germans were still terribly efficient and not nearly as risky or haphazard as the Brits. While there was always a palpable sense of threat and hostility on German streets, it never seemed personal, unlike Italy, and a far cry from the insecure, terrified driving of the Brits."

I've read other books by Aleksandr Voinov and loved them very much. This one didn't entirely work for me, unfortunately. It left me cold, because while I kinda liked Nikita, I didn't feel a connection to the main characters and their story. I also found there was too much sex and not enough plot and that little plot there was, was confusing to me, but maybe that's because I haven't read the first book.

I liked this more than the 1st book in the series: Chris was my favorite character (always had a thing for the cocky ones)and I wasn't satisfied by the end of Clean Slate since I though he was kind of wasted in a threesome with John and Andrei.
Chris and Nikita are, in my humble opinion, definitively a better pair: their interactions were explosive and, at the same time, there was an aftertaste of sweetness that made them even hotter together!

Really liked. There's something about the Russian MC characters that Alek brings to life that makes me fall in love with them. There's a bit of cutting in here so if that bothers you, be warned. That alone brings Vadim to mind wit theRussian MC, Nikoli.

Hell yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Hard, hot!!!, fun, smart, action-packed, and still enough awwwww... inside to keep my inner shipper happy.
Had to put it down for RL reasons after the first few pages, but I inhaled it when I picked it back up.

I liked this one better than Clean Slate. I wasn't too crazy about John in the first place so having him and Andrei largely off screen worked well for me. Nikita was a larger than life character and a good match for Chris. I was confused by Chris' seeming personality switch though. He was so much more assertive in Clean Slate. I would have thought that he and Nikita would have had a much more equal relationship. I look forward to the next installment.

Now this installment is more like it!
While reading this novel, the alpha-junkie in me got so high that I still have to carry her around with a string attached to her ankle, like a damn balloon.

In some aspects this book is more solid, than the first part, which is rather rarely for the sequels, imo. I liked it, but I think I still can't get over the fact, that all Nikita wanted at first was to avenge Andrei's supposed death, but when he first gets his hands on Chris and has sex with him - he kind of forgots about revenge and just leaves. I mean the guy's travelled half of the world and then... nothing? Obviously it's not a big deal in romance books, but it jarred me here, I'm not sure...more
First Blood is the second of a series, Clean Slate is the first. "Clean Slate" was a harder read than normal for me. I kept putting it down and then picking it back up. This is due to the relationships between Chris, John and Andrei. "First Blood" second book in the series affected me the same way. For some reason once Nikita was fully introduced as a major character I was ok and ended up loving it. Maybe it was the menage aspect that I didn't like and once Chris realized he fell for Nikita I re...more
