After reading the first two books in fairly quick succession and really enjoying them both, I was so pleased to receive a review copy of the third and latest instalment in the brilliant 'Sabina Kane' series by Jaye Wells.

As with all the 'Sabina Kane' books this one begins with a fast-paced action scene, which pulled me in to the story from the first page. Sabina and her team, consisting of Giguhl and Adam, are on route to find Maisie, Sabina's twin sister.

Adam is still the scorchingly sexy mage,...more

I’m not sure why I wanted to read an early copy of this book. After book 2, I did not know if I wanted to continue with the series at all. Frankly, I was bored with the series, and I really did not like Sabina. I know, this is not how you start a review in which you rated the book 4 stars but please stick with me. I’ll make sense eventually… or not.

Anyways, book 3 in the Sabina Kane saga started really darn good. I was squealing with joy (no, not literally) but I was happy. I so did not regret m...more

Now, see, this is what an urban fantasy book is supposed to look like. It has absolutely everything: vampires, mages, weres, mischief demons, fae transvestites, voodoo priestesses, kidnapped twin sisters, evil murderous grandmothers, epic battles and great love stories. Jaye Wells has come a long way since writing Red Headed Stepchild . Truth to be told, she’s spending an awful lot of time with Nicole Peeler lately. Maybe Peeler’s general awesomeness rubbed off on her somehow.

While Sab...more

This is a series that must be read in order and cannot be read as a stand-alone. Green Eyed Demon starts at the very beginning with very fast paced action and holds a steady pace until the nail biting end. There is a very climatic fight at the end of the book. We have quite a few new characters and beings, also many of the mages from book two carry over, while several characters from the first book drop by to wreak havoc on Sabina’s life. One of the characters from Red-Headed Stepchild that make...more

Exceptional 3rd book. The ending wasn't as satisfying as I had hoped but didnt have the feel of a true cliff hanger either. The primary conflicts of the book were dealt with but a lot of loose ends were left hanging out. Things that will probably be used for storyline in the next book/s but resolving at least some of them might have made for a more satisfying ending.

The story was fast paced and the 3 book nemesis arc was satisfactorily concluded. The story provided plenty of history to introduce...more

Mrs. Wells please let me shake your hand. Thank you.

I am so surprised by Green-Eyed Demon. When I finished the previous book I was thinking of reading this just for the sake of knowing how it will end. Or evolve since there are two more books coming out. And then I started reading having a bored face and cringing a bit when thinking that I’ll get to taste some more of Sabina’s “sexy” attitude.

And then this happened:

Nah I’m kidding, don’t worry. There was no creepy Japanese person rubbing a bunn...more

Green Eyed Demon – Jaye Wells Third book in the Sabina Kane series
When Ms Wells handed me one of her books at RT, I was gob smacked. Here’s this amazingly funny, extremely snarky, very much reluctant adult author (seriously I need to borrow you to come to Australia) handing a book to little ole me. Now before any of you out there get jealous a word to the wise. It’s a huge responsibility to be handed a book by the author to review. Seriously HUGE. I got to know Ms Wells before reading her books...more

Sabina recently found her twin sister, but in true fashion her twin has been kidnapped by her grandmother. On top of that, the Dark Races are about to go to war & are being manipulated by an order no one seems to know about.

As usual, Sabina has her back up squad, Team Awesome or Team Yay or Whatever they want to name themselves cause it keeps a changing, Giguhl the coolest mischief demon around & Adam the hunky mage! They end up in New Orleans hunting for Sabina’s twin, but there are all...more

Originally planned as a trilogy (I believe) the Sabina Kane series has gained enough readers to allow Wells to extend the series. Silver Tounge Devil (Book #4) should be out late 2011.
At the end of The Mage in Black Sabina's newly discovered twin sister, Maisie, was kidnapped by her vampire grandmother and now Sabina is determined to save her. With Adam and Gighul backing her up, Sabina heads to New Orleans for a kickass confrontation with Lavinia and the Caste of Nod.
Once again the setting of...more

MINOR SPOILER

My list of favourite UFs consists of only three series. And Jaye Wells’ Sabina Kane series is one of them!!!

Sabina’s narration is one of the few out there in the genre that I don’t find tedious or boring. I loved Sabina in the previous books, but I think her character has grown immensely from the first two books. Sure, she’s still got her quick-fire temper and bitchy moments, but she wouldn’t be Sabina if she lost that fire in her.

When we first met Sabina in book one, she was a co...more

I just finished reading "Green-Eyed Demon" and cannot believe how this series just keeps getting better and better. I am constantly amazed how Jaye Wells manages to enthrall me with her wonderful world building, humor, and writing ability. I mean, come on, who can write about a apple juice wielding vampire assassin, horny cat/demon, sexy mage and a realistic sadistic grandma that even I wanted to kill?

Sabina's twin sister has been kidnapped and she must get her back. She must go to N'awlins to f...more

I've read both of Wells' other books. I loved Sabina from page one. In this book, we see a flawed and possibly broken-beyond-repair Kane. Her character arc has taken a downward turn for sure. We don't have as much of the sizzle and sass as we did in the first two. She's darker. It's obvious her choices in the first two books are weighing on her...changing her.

I didn't like this Sabina as much because she is darker. Her character growth seems to be taking her into a very twisted place. While I m...more

Sabine’s twin sister Maisie has been kidnapped by their evil vampire grandmother Lavinia. Now the journey has taken Sabine and her side-kicks mage Adam & demon Giguhl, them to New Orleans. The council has given them a mission; find Lavinia and stop her before she summons Cain and if that means they find Maisie along the way, that’s a bonus. But Sabine’s priority is her sister and will do anything in her power to save her.

Sabine’s relationship with Adam is getting stronger, but she is still q...more

A severely weakened coalition of mages has formed an alliance with the Fae. But while both parties' agenda is centered on staving off an upcoming war, half blood vampire Sabina's goal is simply to rescue her twin Maisie from the clutches of their vindictive vampire grandmother and to also hopefully take her grandmother out of the picture once and for all.

The hunt for her sister takes Sabina, her cat/demon minion and the luscious mage Adam to atmospheric New Orleans and there is a good amount of...more

In the third instalment of the Sabina Kane series the action never stops and Green Eyed Demon picks up right were the Mage in Black left off. Green Eyed Demon by Jaye Wells is the thrilling third novel in the widely popular Sabina Kane series. This wonderful urban fantasy series has a little bit of something for everyone: a kick ass half vampire-half mage heroine, a sexy side kick mage with romantic intentions toward said heroine, a wickedly funny demon and a wide cast of villains who threaten to unleash unimaginable doom upon the world. Add to that action, drama, romance, suspense, mystery, come...more

Yes, I'm a bit disappointed in this installment of the series. It was veeeerrrry slow up until about half way through. Nothing was really happening, I felt like the story was stalling and almost going around in circles for that long, which was a bit boring. Even though Sabina was with Adam.

We meet some fae characters when the setting of this book switches to New Orleans. This might've been one of the good points. I loved "Pussy-Willow" (Brooks). His, or is it her, character was entertai...more

That's IT. I couldn't finish it. I got to 50% in the book and am done! Truthfylly a book should be excellent and gripping in the first chapter PERIOD!! However I've been giving authors till chapter 7 these days on my new path of Reading Patience.

Well this novel Crapped all over my patience...

FOUR REASONS WHY IT SUCKS!!

ONE- It wasn't horrifically bad.. it just wasn't good. What was the author thinking about? There's a scene with a midget stripper pissing on a vampire. AND the scene has nothing...more

This is the third novel in the Sabina Kane series and it was...stilted. The book started out well, minus a few too many "Bitches" and other words that were used far too often.

This is not a stand alone novel, and you need to read the previous book to figure out what on earth is going on.

Sabina, Adam and Gigi are on a mission to find and rescue Maisie from the clutches of Lavinia.

It was good in the beginning, really slow in the middle, and really fast at the end.

I did get a little teary at the e...more

Green Eyed Demon is a major improvement over its predecessor. I laughed, I cried, I sniggered at the dirty, filthy orgy. Yes, you read correctly.

What made this so good other than Giguhl's rib-crackingly funny comments, was Sabina's growth. She's been through hell and is having to adapt quickly along the way. It's a rocky road. She makes mistakes. She gets knocked down but she always, always picks her wounded ass back up and lives to fight for another day.

Her fierce determination in protecting t...more

Yeah, these books have been going rapidly downhill, to the point that this one is the last for me. In this, Sabina and Co. hit New Orleans to find her missing sister. I must say, for a group who have never been to New Orleans before, they seem remarkably acquainted with the regional customs and slang. Oh no, she was ordering her minion out for Beignets and chicory like a pro on their first morning. The whole thing with the cow's blood was simply appalling. In every other vampire story I have eve...more

All right, I have to admit that I'm hooked. Like I said before, this series is a slow burn, but a building burn none the less. I'm glad to see where it is progressing, though.

If I could sum this book in the series up in one word that word would be "vengeance". However, other words come to mind, and it would be a shame to omit them since this book has more depth and a building charm to it that I suspect will culminate toward the series end - commitment, independence, crossroads, comedy, lust, ac...more
Fangs for the Fantasy
This book could really be described as the evolution of Sabina. She is forced to consider her true feelings for the mage Adam, confront both her grandmother and her magical powers as well as the fact that despite her shoving everyone away from her, she is really a member of a team.

When last left Sabina, her sister Maisie had been kidnapped by Lavinia and the mage society was nearly destroyed thus making it difficult for them to go on the defense let alone offense in the coming war. After making...more

Third in the Sabina Kane urban fantasy series revolving around a half-mage, half-vampire twin who needs to learn to stop being so dang selfish. Most of the action occurs in New Orleans.

My Take
Drama queen, oh, yeah, she's a drama queen. Can you tell Sabina is really irritating me? At times, I think I was rooting for the bad guys to take her out and put her out of my misery. I mean, she wants to kidnap one of the Dominae ruling council and she's got one. WHAT is the problem??? Sabina is definite...more

Whilst the story is still fast paced and has plenty of suspense and shocks, it actually has the simplest storyline by far. This means that we get more time to explore Sabrina's character and her relationships with the rest of Team Awesome are fully fleshed out.

The main obstacle that Sabrina faces this time around is her own dominant hot-headed, vampire side; she is a trained assassin and has always worked alone and leans towards charging in, threats, shouting and violence to solve her problems...more

Okay, so as I was reading this, I did notice the things that the people who had issues with this book were talking about. Sabina did have some really bitchy moments, but I thought she actually held her tongue when needed at most times. She did have the bad habit of forgetting that whole teamwork things, though. And it was stupid to rush off on her own at the end, there. I was glad she was found out as soon as possible even though it resulted in what happened with Maisie.

So now we know who the re...more

This is the third Sabina Kane book and the strongest so far. I really enjoyed Red Headed Stepchild and Mage in Black but this is my favourite in the series – they just keep getting better with each book. Sabina has come a long from the heartless assassin we first met. Her circle of acquaintances has expanded to include friends, family and lovers. She is still short tempered and prone to punching first and asking questions later, but she has let herself be vulnerable and more trusting than she wa...more
